Sunflower Bakery is a non-profit, kosher, social enterprise that uses food as a tool to enable pathways for employment for young adults with learning differences through skilled job training and employment opportunities in the baking and hospitality industries. Sunflower workforce development training programs include Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, Hospitality Employment, and a pre-employment Teen Exposure Program.

 

Job Description

It’s an exciting time to be part of the Sunflower Bakery team.  As we build on a strong foundation, Sunflower is looking to grow and scale our impact in the community.  To support this work, Sunflower is looking for dynamic individual to serve as Director of Development.  This position is responsible for over $1 million of Sunflower’s revenue through the planning, organizing, implementing and directing of all of Sunflower’s fundraising efforts including individual and major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants and government support. Additionally, the Director of Development will also oversee special events that have fundraising components.  The Director works with, and reports to the Executive Director, will serve as a member of the leadership team, and will work closely with the Board of Directors in development and fundraising endeavors.  

Position Requirements/Essential Functions

Fundraising

  • Develop long-term strategic and annual operational plans to meet revenue fundraising goals – increasing annually.
  • Use metrics and data to inform goals and establish performance measures. Monitor results to evaluate the effectiveness of Sunflower’s development programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and prepare major gift cultivation, corporate, government and foundation proposals and reports to reach annual goals.
  • Ensure pertinent and relational information on donors is recorded and tracked in development database and reported upon quarterly to measure progress to goal.
  • Establish a planned giving program to facilitate legacy gifts and grow DAF giving through engagement with donors and financial advisors.
  • Collaborate with ED and Marketing & Communications consultant to ensure marketing annual giving appeals are successful and growing.
  • Serve as lead on working with Board Development Committee to support annual fundraising plan.

 

Donor Cultivation, Stewardship, and Communication

  • Maintain current and cultivate new relationships with major donors, foundations, corporations, and government funders.
  • Develop a pipeline of new donor prospects and new donors.
  • Develop and implement an annual donor communications plan.
  • Develop and create publications to support fundraising activities with focus on Sunflower’s impact in the community.
  • Prepare Sunflower’s annual report and other communications as needed.

 

Special Events and Campaigns

  • Plan, develop and implement calendar year-end fundraising campaign for individual donors through mailing and online solicitation and promotion.
  • Engage donors in Sunflower Bakery’s work through tours of facility and creative fundraising initiatives that focus on programmatic impact.
  • Plan and implement Giving Tuesday campaign to raise awareness and funds.
  • Work with Executive Director, serve as lead in planning and execution of Sunflower’s annual spring Graduation and Celebration Event.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years minimum experience in professional non-profit fundraising. Experience in social enterprises, social services, job training, or learning disability-focused organizations a plus.
  • A proven track record of growing all funding categories
  • A proven track record of initiating and building relationships with prospects by soliciting, securing and closing major gifts.
  • Experience using data to make informed decisions to drive results.
  • Commitment to Sunflower’s mission– must adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate an empathetic disposition, and convey sensitivity to the needs of donors, staff, students and volunteers.
  • CRM (DonorPerfect, Salesforce) experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the willingness to make “cold calls” in order to cultivate, solicit and close proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through to complete a quality work product in a timely manner.
  • A “self-starter” and goal-driven to initiate new fundraising initiatives.
  • Commitment to being part of, and supporting a trust-based culture.

 

Position

This is a full-time, salaried position with telework option. Regular working hours are Monday- Friday, 8:30-5:00pm with additional time for events, meetings, etc.  Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Sunflower offers a generous benefit package including Jewish holiday days off, most Federal holidays off, a health plan, and a 401K plan with employer match.  To apply, include a cover letter and resume and send to [email protected].
