Beth Tikvah B’nai Jeshurun is a warm and welcoming conservative synagogue located in Montgomery County, Pa. We are an active and vibrant congregation serving our early childhood center, religious school, and teen and populations. We are looking for a Communications and Office Associate to interface with our staff, committees/affiliates and congregants in a professional manner.  The applicant should have experience working in an office environment, have a meticulous attention to detail, be proficient at multi-tasking and have strong computer, written and oral communication skills. The position is an onsite, full-time position.

The Communications and Office Associate for Beth Tikvah B’nai Jeshurun will be the first point of contact and provide a welcoming face to people coming to our synagogue. They will also provide support to the Rabbi, Director of Congregational Music, Executive Director, and Synagogue President. A successful candidate is organized, skilled in personal relations, uses judgment in prioritizing demands, and keeps all office matters confidential.

Job responsibilities for the Communications and Office Associate include, but are not limited to:

Communication planning, content creation, and copywriting

  • Writes clear, compelling copy for various mediums to inform and engage target audiences of and create handouts for services and holidays.
  • Proofread and edit content provided by staff and congregants.
  • Collaborate on social media content planning, creation, and publication.
  • Create flyers, social graphics, gifs, videos, and other marketing assets.
  • Maintain website (ShulCloud platform) assuring it is current, accurate, and uses SEO to maximize reach.
  • Maintain online calendar with support from the Executive Director.
  • Maintain editorial calendar to plan and coordinate publication of communications across channels.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers on messaging about programs and events.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute synagogue newsletter.

Office Administration

  • Greet visitors and members in a friendly and welcoming manner at front desk.
  • Answer and screen synagogue phone calls
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director, clergy, and lay leadership.
  • Assist Rabbi to manage personal calendar, email flow, program planning, and communications.
  • Assist with setup of religious services, board meetings and other synagogue events.

Competencies and qualities for the Communications and Office Associate include:

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and not easily distracted by other co-workers in a shared office space.
  • Ability to exhibit a high level of decorum and confidentiality.
  • Ability to identify challenges and propose solutions.
  • Capable of working effectively both independently and part of a team.
  • Self-starter who is organized and proactive.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Canva, Vimeo, Zoom, Calendly, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of ShulCloud, Quark and Constant Contact preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with a html a plus.
  • Experience working in an office setting.
  • Familiarity with Jewish customs and/or synagogue experience a plus
