About Us

New Beginnings is a newly established American nonprofit that empowers individuals exploring Jewish life in ways that may differ from the Orthodox traditions they come from.

Backed by strong foundation support, we’re launching an innovative New York City initiative that provides education, skill-building, and community connection — helping people build new lives with dignity, confidence, and belonging.

The Role

We’re seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to build and lead our New York operations from the ground up. Reporting to the Executive Director, the COO will design systems, guide program rollout, and ensure sustainable growth — all within a culturally sensitive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee programs focused on language learning (e.g., English proficiency), digital literacy (e.g., online navigation, job platforms), and cultural adaptation.
  • Lead a small team (1–2 staff initially) and volunteers, establishing systems for pilot programs during the first year.
  • Create a safe, discreet, and welcoming environment for participants navigating sensitive life changes.
  • Ensure that operations reflect our mission of empowering self-directed Jewish journeys.
  • Represent New Beginnings to community partners, funders, and local institutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of nonprofit operations or executive leadership experience, ideally within Jewish communal or social service organizations.
  • Strong understanding of personal and cultural transitions within Jewish communities, with sensitivity to the challenges involved.
  • Proven ability to design, launch, and scale impactful programs.
  • Experience managing budgets and small teams, ideally in a startup or growth-phase setting.
  • Knowledge of New York’s Jewish landscape; familiarity with Yiddish language or Hasidic cultural contexts is an advantage.
  • Exceptional discretion and empathy in working with sensitive populations.

Why Join Us

Join a passionate, well-funded team at the forefront of a meaningful new initiative. This is a rare opportunity to shape an organization from its earliest stage — and to help individuals rebuild their lives with purpose and belonging.

All applications and inquiries will be treated with complete confidentiality.
