Grant Writer/Development Associate


A nonprofit, social service, Jewish communal organization located in Middlesex County seeks a motivated, full-time Grant Writer/Development Associate interested in a growth position. This position reports to the Senior Development Officer (SDO), and also works collaboratively with the CEO and the board Development Vice President. Candidates are expected to display exceptional organizational, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to manage multiple priorities. Candidates will focus on identification, research, writing and management of grant proposals for government and institutional grants, corporate partnerships, and capital campaign. Successful candidates will develop strategies to engage and raise funds from multiple constituency groups. The Grant Writer/Development Associate will assist in expanding engagement with the business and philanthropic community, as well as in fundraising events. This position is onsite and includes occasional night and weekend hours.


Principal Responsibilities


Grant Writing and Management 


  • Research, identify and qualify new funding opportunities from individuals, corporate, foundation, state, and government sources
  • Craft compelling grant proposals and create timely and accurate progress reports for funders
  • Oversee grants calendar and maintain up-to-date database records for all institutional donors
  • Manage annual review and renewal process for all grant opportunities
  • Work closely with the Finance team as the liaison for Development in the preparation of federal and state funding reports
  • Collaborate with other departments in preparation for grant proposals and progress reports
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and donors
  • Serve as resident expert on all state and federal funding processes and protocols


Development Support


  • Support Senior Development Officer and assist in coordination and enhancement of annual and special campaigns, including annual giving programs, Tribute card and Certificate program, Board Giving and Capital Campaign


  • Create and implement effective communication strategies with impactful messages inspiring others to accomplish the mission and cause


  • Work closely with SDO to create new donor programs and identify and engage new donor cohorts


  • Assist SDO in development and promotion of culture of philanthropy including creativity, teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement





  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, cooperation and collaboration, plus a self-motivated, proactive, self-starter
  • 2-3 years of development experience to include grant writing
  • Proven track record with State and Federal government grant writing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to lead
  • Experience crafting LOIs, concept papers, proposals, and stewardship materials
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast paced, team oriented environment
  • Understanding of technical and financial requirements for large grants
  • Highly organized and effective in managing competing deadlines
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Gmail/GSuite
  • Knowledge of prevalent donor database systems preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution is required
