Director of Youth and Camp


Hours: Varied. Frequent nights and weekends required.
Job type: Full-time; Exempt; $60,000-$80,000 DOE

Camp Simcha Director

  • Programs

      • Direct all aspects of the day camp for 8 weeks in the summer, including preparation and post-camp debrief and closure processes. This includes execution of and ownership of all aspects of camp leadership and management – including but not limited to  registration, reporting, promotions, HR compliance, campership guidelines and allocation and handbook updates.

      • Plan and implement all logistical and programmatic aspects of camp including but not limited to scheduling, transportation and supplies.

      • Vision and lead all educational and social programs within camp, including all camp programs and shabbat experiences. 

      • Develop and implement creative new program opportunities for campers.

      • Manage leadership opportunities and training for teen employees and volunteers.

  • Human Resources 

      • Interview, hire, train, and supervise all head counselors, counselors, counselors-in-training, specialists, and Assistant Directors.

      • Plan and execute weeklong staff training pre-camp and lead weekly counselor-in-training and other staff meetings for staff development.

      • Oversight and execution of staff and camper compliance with Camp Simcha Handbook, compliance with payroll and HR requirements including updates to handbooks, trainings, etc.

  • Promotions/Communications

      • Work in close coordination with Director of Community Engagement for camp publicity and promotion, including parent packets, weekly newsletter, brochures, etc.

      • Supervise and be accountable for all communications related to Camp Simcha, including with parents.

  • Budget/Administration

 

    • Plan, anticipate, and be accountable for the overall budget of camp, in collaboration with Treasurer and CEO.

    • Oversee alignment of camp mission with the programming.

    • Complete timely execution of all contracts (park, bus, pool, etc). - consultation with CEO as needed. 

  • NOTE: The Camp Director part of the position will begin after summer 2024 concludes. The Youth & Camp Director may play a role at camp for summer 2024 - TBD.

Youth Engagement Director

  • Youth Events for grades K-6

    • Plan, calendar, coordinate, staff and attend a minimum of three Simcha Days events during the year for Grades K-6

  • Manage the Temple Solel youth groups for middle and high school

    • Work with the student board

    • Create programs, trips, and activities throughout the year

  • Jewish Holiday Experiences

    • Work with clergy and Director of Experiential Education to lead/participate in youth Jewish holiday experiences, including but not limited to High Holy Days and festivals such as Chanukah and Pesach.

  • Congregational Programs

    • Participate in and attend the Congregational Retreat – guidance and leadership in creating and executing programming utilizing teens and youth.

    • Coordinate and administer babysitting for various clergy programs during the year.

  • Religious School

    • Be a presence at religious school in either a teaching capacity or administrative capacity as decided upon by you and the Director of Experiential Education. 

  • Teen Journey Faculty Member (8th-12th grade)

    • Teach in the Teen Journey experiential educational program

General Commitments 

  • Attend monthly Temple Solel Board meetings.

  • Attend weekly senior staff meetings to problem solve and create vision – participate in brainstorming and commit to projects in Teen and Youth realms.

  • Plan for and calendar Youth and Teen events in coordination with congregational calendar – oversee the procuring of supplies and the maintaining of spaces used for Youth and Teen programs. 

  • Apply for and track usage of grants/funding/gifts.
