Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation's Capital is an independent, community Jewish day school that currently offers a dual curriculum of General and Judaic studies for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The school serves 480 students at our Kay and Robert Schattner Center Campuses - the beautiful South Campus for Early Childhood students in Grades PK-1, and the newly renovated and expanded North Campus for Elementary and Middle School students in Grades 2-8. 

Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School is seeking an experienced mental health professional to join our team of school counselors in the student support services department. School counselors works closely with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to understand and meet the needs of all of our learners in Pre-K through eighth grade. A primary responsibility is providing direct services to students with a range of social-emotional and behavioral needs, including individual and small group counseling and larger group social-emotional learning. Counselors offer consultation to teachers and parents around student social-emotional and behavioral needs and supports, facilitate implementation of self-regulation tools and behavior support plans, and take a lead in responding to student mental health crises that may arise.

Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills are essential in this position. The school counselor will document and communicate sensitive information with families about student needs, interventions, and progress on a regular basis, as well as collaborate with other professionals, including private therapists, psychiatrists, and other providers.

 

 A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or counseling is required. Licensure within the mental health field is required and a clinical license is strongly preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years post graduate experience.
