Position Overview

The JCC is seeking an innovative, creative and collaborative leader to serve as JCC’s Senior Director - Cultural Arts. This position oversees the Jewish Community Center’s cultural arts programs, one of the most impactful departments of the JCC. The focus of this role is to provide leadership and oversight to the department, including the direction of the annual Jewish Book Fair, Jewish Film Festival, SAJE (Seminars for Adult Jewish Enrichment), and other cultural arts events at the JCC. From beginning to end, large picture to smallest detail, the Director is responsible for every aspect of these programs, as well as supporting a strategic vision for departmental growth

The Director of Cultural Arts will report to the Chief Program Officer. As a member of the JCC’s leadership team, this position will work closely with other department Senior Directors as well as executive staff.

Requirements and Skills

· Minimum of four years of experience with a focus on project management and program development

· Demonstrated success in supervision and leading and motivating a team

· Demonstrated ability to guide strategy while executing at a high level with an eye for detail

· Ability to forecast and manage the cultural arts budgets

· Ability to succeed in a flexible environment with ease and sensitivity - seizing opportunities, learning, and problem-solving in real time

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to connect with stakeholders including participants, lay leaders, and volunteers

· Experience and comfort using technology including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom to support organization, efficiency, and communication

· Passionate about creating and implementing innovative Jewish cultural programming for a wide audience

· Experience developing and implementing outstanding Jewish programming.

· Proven track record in the fundraising or development arena

· Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred

Position Responsibilities

· Plan and implement all relevant programming during festivals and throughout the year, including, but not limited to the Detroit Jewish Book Fair, the Lenore Marwil Detroit Jewish Film Festival, and SAJE (Seminars in Adult Jewish Enrichment)

· Supervise a team of staff and volunteers

· Develop and manage the annual budget

· Work with chairs and committees to create programmatic vision by organizing and attending committee meetings

· Oversee creation and implementation of marketing materials and campaigns

· Organize and staff events

· Work together with JCC Development staff to secure patrons and donors

· Represent program at relevant national organization

· Oversee facilities logistics and assist in setup as needed

· Develop and implement annual program evaluation

· Secure and manage contracts for presenters

· Book Fair only: oversee operations of pop-up book store during festival

· Understand the JCC yearly program calendar and the schedule as it revolves around the festivals and programs

· Create flexible programming to meet the needs of our community, with a digital landscape in mind
