Director of Finance

About the position:
The Finance Director is responsible for directing the fiscal operations of Camp Kingswood, including budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, human resources, and development. The Finance Director is responsible for maintaining operational efficiency, sound internal controls, and effective financial management. In partnership with the camp owners, they will provide strategic leadership in establishing long-term goals, protocols, and policies. As a recently-acquired camp under new ownership, the Finance Director will play a key role in designing and implementing new systems and processes for managing the finances of camp, and will ensure the compliance of all State and Federal codes and regulations.

They are supervised by one of the two camp owners, and work closely and under the direction of the other owner, and in collaboration with the rest of the year-round and seasonal team. 

Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Budgeting
    • Develop and maintain an annual budget cycle that reflects the workflow and fiscal year of camp.
    • Manage the budgeting process throughout the entirety of the fiscal year, from drafting the annual budget through end-of year analysis.
    • Analyze operations and spending to identify opportunities for cost-savings and efficiencies.
    • Support the process of setting fees and projecting revenue annually.
    • Perform risk management analysis of company liabilities, income structure, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Policies and procedures
    • Create and maintain policies and procedures regarding financial functions of the business, including practices for spending and reimbursements, 
  • Lead the team around all financial functions in a collaborative and positive way.

Accounting:

  • Ensure the compliance of all state and federal codes and regulations.
  • Manage accounts payable and bill payments, recording all transactions in Quickbooks, and maintaining positive relationships with vendors. 
  • Manage accounts receivable, including processing tuition payments in CampMinder, ACH payments, and checks received, recording all transactions in Quickbooks.
  • Communicate with families regarding payments and scholarship. 
  • Manage payment processes for transportation, canteen accounts, B’nei Mitzvah tutoring, trip money, and other additional parent payments. 
  • Monitor and reconcile all accounts, statements, credit cards, petty cash and payroll, daily.
  • Manage reimbursements and petty cash. 
  • Monitor and reconcile all spending on company credit cards, managing payments and compliance, serving as main point of contact for any issues. 
  • Work with external accountants to prepare year-end tax returns and financial statements. 
  • Prepare and send out tax documents for employees and contractors.

Human Resources:

  • Onboard new employees regarding benefits, salary, and fiscal policies.
  • Provide employees with the tools and equipment needed for their role (laptop, email address, access to shared drives)
  • Manage payroll, assuring timely and accurate payment to all employees. 
  • Assist summer staff in the completion of their employee paperwork as needed, with particular attention to international staff unfamiliar with US practices. 
  • Manage the process of new international staff receiving Social Security cards within their first week of camp. 
  • Serve as point–of-contact for benefits administrator, responsible for communicating benefits annually to employees, and raising awareness of changes, deadlines, and updates. 
  • Research, implement, and maintain a 401k plan for employees. 

Development:

  • Facilitate the transfer of the 501(c)3 Friends of Camp Kingswood from the alumni to Camp Kingswood.  
  • Create and oversee the process for accepting donations. 
  • Identify grants or funding opportunities relevant for Camp Kingswood, and facilitate the application process. 

Other:

  • Submit all business licensing and state required documentation.
  • Oversee background checks for all employees.
  • Serve as point-of-contact for utilities, reporting and resolving issues as needed.  
  • Responsible for reviewing and ensuring compliance with all contracts, including international staffing agencies, bus companies, laundry, and other vendors. 

Requirements:

  • Degree in accounting, with 3+ years experience in an accounting role. 
  • Experience and ease working with Quickbooks, Excel, Google Suite. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Camp experience preferred. 
  • Must be self-motivated, a team player, flexible, and positive. 
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Camp Kingswood.

Camp Kingswood is a traditional, co-ed, Jewish overnight camp in Maine, serving 450 children each summer. For over 110 years Camp Kingswood has been helping kids grow into the best versions of themselves in our intimate, rustic and unplugged environment on the shores of Woods Pond. Our mission at Kingswood is to create a fun, friendly, and inclusive environment based in our core values of community, courage, responsibility and respect, that allows campers to grow and explore in their own way, at their own pace. 

Our Workplace Culture and Community 
Camp Kingswood is led by a small team of dedicated professionals who work remotely from September - May, and work in-person on-site at camp in Bridgton, Maine from mid-May through early September. We live our Kingswood core values year-round, and despite being seasonally remote, we support a workplace culture that is fun, supportive, collaborative, equitable, inclusive, and grounded in respect. Our year-round calendar and work flow is designed to promote community and collaboration among our year-round team, with connections maintained throughout the year with our seasonal staff. During the off-season we gather in-person every 4-6 weeks when we have conferences, camp events, or trainings to attend. The in-person and remote schedule is subject to change based on the needs of camp. This position could live off-site during the summer for the right candidate.
