Job Summary:

Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, the largest Reform synagogue in North America, is seeking a Director of Programming who will plan and implement a wide range of Temple activities from individual/one-time events to ongoing programs across various constituencies of our Temple community.

We are seeking a professional, full-time, highly motivated, enthusiastic individual, who has outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, is detail oriented and has strong oral and written communication skills.

The ideal candidate will enjoy being part of a highly collaborative team, working in a caring, cohesive, creative and supportive environment. He or she will have the ability to multitask and prioritize, while being passionate about building a vibrant Jewish community.

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Deepen connections with our membership while directing program needs, including but not limited to – Social Action, Young Family Programming, Interfaith, and Affinity Groups.
  • Ensure Temple Israel is strongly connected to the local community and Jewish community, collaborate with other organizations and help to coordinate community events, held at Temple Israel.
  • Serve as a liaison to our affiliate groups (Brotherhood & Women of Temple Israel).
  • Oversee the Temple calendar and review the community calendar to ensure there are no major conflicts with events (within Temple and the greater Jewish community).
  • Work closely with our communications department to promote all events.
  • To serve as a link between our Clergy, Professional Staff and lay leaders to develop and maintain programs.
  • Shared supervision of a Programming & Engagement Associate with the Executive Director
  • Attends staff and professional staff meetings, as needed.
  • Assists with other Temple projects, meetings, as needed.

 

Skill and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 5 years relevant experience
  • A strategic planner and strong organizational skills.
  • Passionate about building a vibrant Jewish community.
  • Energetic, outgoing and flexible – with a strong work ethic and self-motivation.
  • Jewishly knowledgeable.
  • Able to juggle multiple projects at one time – multitask and prioritize.
  • Able to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ready to work independently AND as part of a highly collaborative team.
  • Interested in taking risks, willing to learn from failure and creative in finding solutions.

  • Ability to interact in a positive manner in person and on the phone.

Salary & Benefits
