Job Title: Facilities Manager - Beth El Synagogue Center

Reports To: Executive Director 

Position Overview: 

The Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall operation, safety, and upkeep of the synagogue’s physical campus. This full-time, hands-on role supports the daily functioning of a vibrant, multi-use building that hosts worship services, educational programs, lifecycle events, and community gatherings. The Facilities Manager ensures that all systems—from HVAC to security to event setup—are running smoothly, efficient, and proactively. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Facilities & Systems Management 

  • Oversee the building’s infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance. 
  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule to reduce downtime and avoid costly repairs. 
  • Supervise the Head Custodian and work with vendors for repairs and ongoing service contracts. ? Ensure compliance with all building safety codes and regulations. 

Event & Space Logistics 

  • Coordinate and supervise room setups for services, programs, and events, ensuring timely and accurate execution. 
  • Maintain detailed checklists and schedules to support smooth event transitions and space resets. ? Monitor supply inventory and support efficient use of furniture, equipment, and storage. 

Security & Emergency Preparednes

  • Set and manage the daily and event-based security schedule in coordination with clergy and sta. ? Maintain and troubleshoot access control systems, alarms, and surveillance equipment. 
  • Lead emergency planning efforts, including evacuation procedures, drills, and safety protocol updates. 

Technology Support 

  • Provide basic IT support for sta, including troubleshooting Wi-Fi, printers, and oce equipment. 
  • Set up and maintain AV systems for programs, services, and live streaming, ensuring seamless transitions between spaces. 

Administration & Budgeting

  • Maintain organized systems for tracking maintenance tasks, building issues, and vendor communications. 
  • Monitor building-related expenses and assist in the development and oversight of the facilities budget. 
  • Manage facilities-related grants, from identifying opportunities to tracking implementation and reporting outcomes. 

Leadership & Collaboration 

  • Supervise, train, and support custodial staff, fostering accountability and a team-oriented environment. 
  • Collaborate with clergy, program sta, and lay leaders to ensure facility needs align with synagogue activities. 
  • Create clear workflows and communication systems to support effective building operations. 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities management, maintenance, or a related field ? Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems 
  • Experience supervising custodial or maintenance sta 
  • Ability to manage event logistics and space use across multiple programs 
  • Basic IT and AV troubleshooting skills 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills 
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed; on-call for emergencies ? Physical ability to lift/move heavy equipment

Salary Range: $75,000–$90,000
