Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) seeks a bold, experienced Chief Development Officer who will oversee all aspects of fund development and marketing and communications. The CDO is a growth minded, strategic leader with a track record of expanding multiple funding streams simultaneously and ushering organizations to achieve exponential growth. This position is remote until further notice with the expectation of returning to work in the San Francisco Office. JVS does not provide relocation packages. JVS is launching their new strategic plan publicly this spring. This will be an exciting moment to join JVS as they are deepening their focus to include not only career training but also systems change work centered on fostering economic mobility and racial equity.
This position reports directly to the CEO and manages a team of eleven (three direct reports).

Oversee, assess and provide strategic direction to JVS fund development, marketing and communications departments.

Create and implement new and innovative strategies for revenue generation in all areas of fundraising.

Develop a compelling strategy for and execution of major gift ($5,000+) and annual fund programs.

Enhance current grants program, inclusive of corporate, philanthropic and public grants and contracts.

Optimize development operations for assertive funding growth.

Proactively engage donors through effective and authentic stewardship and donor services.

Oversee JVS events including Strictly Business, the annual fundraising gala, in partnership with development team.

Expand a culture of philanthropy with internal and external stakeholders.

Oversee Marketing and Communications output and deliverables.

Help grow JVS’s brand and reputation by collaborating on storytelling and external reporting.

Support and guide JVS ability to outreach to a diverse client population.

Demonstrate persuasive communication skills with key stakeholders.

Elevate JVS as a thought leader through timely and provocative JVS communications.

Foster a department culture of collaboration, inclusivity, problem solving, high performance, learning, and innovation.

Lived experience or expertise on issues of racial and economic equity and the intersection of social justice wealth-building.

Serve as one of the inspiring faces of JVS in partnership with CEO and other members of the leadership team.

Eight or more years of progressively challenging experience in all areas of fundraising and marketing

Three to five years of supervisory experience

Skilled in asset-based framing and comfortable communicating with funders and other external partners

Strong, steady and unflappable

Understanding of market positioning and attuned to strengthening JVS’s position by elevating existing strengths

Appreciation for the power of community-centered storytelling and its role in narrative change, persuasion and fundraising

Skilled in both critical and strategic thinking – capacity to develop long-term plans, consider trade-offs and propose effective strategies
