Description

The Edlavitch DCJCC is the premier address in our nation's capital for an expanding, diverse, and vibrant urban, Jewish community. The Director of Jewish Life and Learning is a dynamic and crucial position to our identity. The Jewish Life and Learning (JLL) department's aim is to both broaden the tent of who is considered part of our community, and to deepen the Jewish connection of those who are active at the EDCJCC. We are in the community building business, and often programs are our vehicle to connect people to the EDCJCC, to each other, and to enrich their experiences of Jewish life.

The Director of Jewish Life and Learning has three primary goals:

  1. Community building - creating an ever-expanding, open and welcoming tent for Jewish life
  2. Creating approachable, applicable, and diverse Jewish learning for a variety of audiences
  3. Supporting the EDCJCC in its mission as a Jewish values-driven organization

Day to day these goals will manifest as follows:

  • Building, managing and maintaining a portfolio of programs and experiences that provide accessible avenues for exploration of Jewish living, wisdom and values for the diverse audiences served by the EDCJCC.
  • Providing Jewish enrichment and educational experiences for staff and board members who in turn will use that wisdom in their work across the community.
  • Working side by side with staff across the EDCJCC to ensure that programming and experiences that take place across every facet of the EDCJCC are reflective of and celebrate Jewish time and Jewish values.
  • Leveraging the EDCJCC's platform to create a public presence for Jewish life and values both within our walls and as the "front porch" of the Nation's Capital.
  • Collaborating with a Jewish life and learning committee of the board of directors to inform the work of the department, as well as partnering with the development team to cultivate and steward support.

The ideal candidate will be....

  • an authentic Jewish personality with a wealth of Jewish knowledge and experiences who can make Jewish life accessible to people of all backgrounds and ages.
  • a relationship builder and community builder. You are skilled at using Jewish wisdom as a vehicle for building and deepening connection between and among people.
  • a playful explorer of Jewish life, ever learning and able to model what it means to be open and growing.
  • a pluralist who embraces the diverse expressions of Jewish life and can help others encounter and access that diversity.
  • skilled at networking, forming and maintaining partnerships across the community to support the EDCJCC's Jewish life goals.
  • both a big-ideas person, and detail-oriented - skilled at program execution and follow through.
  • someone with at least 4-6 years of prior experience as a Jewish educator, programmer and community builder.

Position details:

  • This is a full-time position that will include evening and weekend responsibilities according to the programming calendar.
  • This is an opportunity to join a creative and talented team in a supportive and flexible work environment.
  • Salary range: $65,000-$77,000
  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package (health/dental/vision insurance, retirement plan, life/disability, FSAs and more) as well as membership and free/discounts for key EDCJCC programs.
  • Start date: April 2023
