Religious School Teacher (Grades 1–2)Congregation B’nai Jacob Religious School
Location: Congregation B’nai Jacob, 75 Rimmon Road, Woodbridge, CT 06525Schedule: Sundays 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Congregation B’nai Jacob is seeking a warm, engaging, and organized teacher for a Grades 1–2 classroom. This role focuses on introducing young students to Jewish learning through stories, holidays, values, and early exposure to Hebrew in a way that is interactive and developmentally appropriate.
Class size is approximately 8–12 students.
Responsibilities:
Teach foundational Jewish concepts through biblical stories (e.g., Creation, Noah, Exodus) and holidays
Introduce basic Hebrew letters and sounds
Teach introductory prayers and build familiarity with Jewish rituals and traditions
Use interactive teaching methods (games, music, movement, storytelling, and hands-on activities)
Create a supportive classroom environment with clear routines
Communicate with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities
Work collaboratively with madrichim (teen aides) and staff
Qualifications:
Basic Hebrew knowledge (familiarity with letters and sounds required)
Experience working with children (teaching, camp, preschool, youth group, or madrich/a experience)
Strong communication skills
Ability to engage early elementary students with energy, patience, and creativity
Familiarity with Jewish traditions, holidays, and values
We welcome candidates with a range of experiences working with children, including teaching, camp, youth programs, or madrich/a roles
Commitment:
Sundays: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
September 16, 2026 – May 16, 2027 (with scheduled breaks)
Compensation:$50–$60 per hour, based on experience
