Description

The Ark, an iconic human service agency serving the Chicagoland Jewish Community, seeks a Manager of Volunteer Services. This individual must have an exceptional aptitude for detail and organization, with a personal and positive demeanor. The candidate will help expand the volunteer role in day-to-day services, several major projects and be instrumental conveying the mission of The Ark to the public. This individual reports directly to the Director of Community Programs and Engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Engagement 

  • Develop and implement new volunteer recruitment, onboarding and retention strategies
  • Lead and coordinate training for new volunteers
  • Construct and communicate volunteer schedules and assignments
  • Design volunteer recognition activities
  • Provide supportive supervision of individual volunteers

Programs, Events and Community Partnerships 

  • Plan and lead group volunteer programs at Ark and off-site at community locations
  • Develop relationships with community leaders to cultivate new partnerships with The Ark
  • Represent The Ark at community events and festivals
  • Plan and execute large-scale seasonal programs
  • Manage the volunteer experience to ensure meaningful interactions with The Ark

Staff Collaboration/Internal Process 

  • Plan and coordinate opportunities for professional volunteers to support programs and services of The Ark
  • Manage client pantry delivery driver program
  • Enter and maintain volunteer data, create and submit reports
  • Collaborate with marketing team to create promotional materials for various programs
  • Engage and collaborate with the Volunteer Committee

General 

  • Respond to emails and phone calls in timely manner
  • Work collaboratively across departments to help support the Food Pantry program
  • Provide support and leadership during transition to renovated location in West Rogers Park in late fall 2023

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong aptitude for organization, detail, and prioritization with ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to collaborate, ask questions, and state expectations
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication
  • Able to adapt to change calmly and efficiently
  • Can apply respect and discretion when interacting with clients, volunteers, and staff
  • Proficiency in Office 365 programs
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings and Sundays
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a car for occasional local travel not accessible by public transportation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Psychology, Human Resources or related field
  • 2+ years in volunteer management or relevant experience
  • General understanding of the Jewish Community, major Jewish holidays and culture
  • Experience using Volunteer Management Software, and CRM (Salesforce) preferred
