Job Description for Morat Dereh (Spiritual Educator)

Salary:             $65,000.00-$80,000.00 (based on experience) 

Education = 35%

Pastoral/Pulpit = 35%

Engagement = 30% 

Education

  • Coordinate with Preschool Director and attend regular preschool visits
  • Partner with Religious School Director and teachers to design curriculum for grades K-7 
  • Teach grade-wide tefilla program on Sunday mornings for Religious School
  • Teach 7th grade Religious School on Tuesday evenings
  • Meet with 7th grade families to help prepare for B’nai Mitzvot
  • Help design and implement high school education programs
  • Partner with lay leadership to design and function as senior staff liaison for Lilmode Adult Education program and teach a Lilmode Series  

Pastoral

  • In coordination with Senior Rabbi, provide lifecycle, counseling, and general pastoral care to Etz Chaim families 

Pulpit

  • Attend and assist at morning minyan as necessary; coordinate and confirm evening minyan leaders
  • Conduct Friday Kabbalat Shabbat services twice monthly
  • Prepare and deliver approximately one sermon each week
  • Prepare and participate with Senior Rabbi to conduct high holiday services and deliver one high holiday sermon
  • Partner with Director of Engagement and Youth Programming and the USY advisor to create Teen/USY high holiday service
  • Assist Preschool & Religious School Directors with young families high holiday programs 

Engagement-Religious

  • Assist Senior Rabbi with coordinating and implementing alternate Shabbat service programs, learners’ service”, a congregational Torah reading program, and a service leaders program
  • Partner with senior staff and lay leadership to develop and implement synagogue-wide religious holiday programs
  • Help develop youth Shabbat program curriculum

Engagement - General/Synagogue Outreach:

  • Be a visible, engaging, and available leader in the synagogue
  • Assist in initiating new and creative ways to engage families in the synagogue and respond to changing needs
  • Connect and forge partnerships with affinity groups and committees within the synagogue and assist lay leadership with projects as needed
