Position

The Shalom Hartman Institute is seeking dynamic, creative, and mission-aligned educators to teach across a wide range of programs and audiences. We are seeking to hire at both the senior and junior level with commensurate compensation. 

This unique role combines teaching responsibilities with a research portfolio, at an 80%/20% ratio Faculty hires will join a lively global team of scholars committed to interdisciplinary collaboration, high-impact thought-leadership, and nurturing the next generation of Jewish leaders and thinkers through transformative ideas. The ideal candidates will have an advanced degree in Jewish Studies (either ordination or academic) and can teach across several Institute platforms – for lay leaders, Jewish communal professionals such as rabbis and Hillel professionals, and young adults. Faculty should be comfortable learning the existing Hartman curricula and teaching on a wide range of topics, including issues related to Israel and Jewish peoplehood (iEngage), Jewish identity, and other Jewish topics. This position will require domestic travel approximately 1-2 times per month for several days at a time and approximately 2 trips per year to Israel, one which could be for as much as a month. This position will report to the Director of Educational Operations and Design.  The position can be in New York or will require regular travel to NY headquarters. 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with other faculty, members of the Educational Leadership Team, and Program Directors to design and deliver in-person and virtual classes to meet the needs of a broad range of audiences - from teens to board members.
  • Serve as bridge between the Kogod Research Center and SHI NA audiences through active research seminar participation and collaboration. Effectively develop and translate content for SHI NA audiences.

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in Jewish Studies (either ordination or academic)

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Deep understanding of and alignment with SHI NA’s mission

  • Ability to travel frequently (2/month around NA, 2/year to Israel)

  • Highly professional demeanor; mindful of appropriate correspondence tone with key stakeholders

  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions and knowing when to take initiative, and when to elevate problems

  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively

  • Customer-service oriented demeanor

  • Flexible work style with the ability to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

  • Good sense of humor

  • BA / BS or equivalent

Salary range and benefits: $90,000 - $150,000, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package. SHI NA is an equal opportunity employer.
