Description

The Pardes Teacher Fellowship is a fully funded, two-year teacher training program that aims to produce skilled and knowledgeable Jewish Studies educators to work in North American Jewish day schools. Based in Talpiot, Jerusalem at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, the fellowship is intended for aspiring Jewish educators who have a BA (or equivelant) and see Jewish education as the key to sustaining Jewish life and meaning into the future.

The two-year fellowship breaks down as follows:

Year One (July '24 - June '25)

Participants deepen their knowledge of Jewish texts, learn how to bring them alive in the classroom and improve their Hebrew skills by participating in Ulpan. Tuition and Ulpan for this year of study is covered by the fellowship (ca. $8000) and fellows receive a stipend of $1400/month ($16,800 anually) to cover rent and other living expenses.

Year Two (September '25 - July '26)

Fellows are placed at a North American Jewish day school to complete a 10-month teacher practicum, during which time they are paid a salary in line with the state/national standard and are matched with a coach at the school.

Following the end of the school year, participants return to Jerusalem for one final month of study and training, for which they receive their monthly stipend.

Note: Graduates of the fellowship are expected to spend at least one additional year as a classroom teacher at a North American Jewish day school.

Certificates/Degrees

Graduates earn a Certificate in Jewish Studies from Pardes and can elect to work toward the completion of a subsidized Master of Jewish Education (MJEd) from Hebrew College (Boston).
