This position is an exciting new professional opportunity for someone who is looking to imagine, create, and grow a new blended partnership between Congregation Beth Shalom (Conservative) and Temple B’nai Israel (Reform) of Clearwater, FL. These vibrant and engaged communities, together, engage over 50 students ages 0-18 and their families.


The Director of Youth Education oversees and manages Jewish education/Religious School for preschool through twelfth grade students and families at Congregation Beth Shalom and Temple B’nai Israel of Clearwater and may include the incorporation of Shabbat/Jewish holidays, community service, and youth programming. This position reports directly to the Rabbi at each congregation and works in cooperation with the VP of Youth and Education and Religious School at both congregations. This includes working with clergy, staff, and lay leadership in creating and planning programming.


- Creation, development, and implementation of Jewish educational programs for children and families with children ages 0-18 (in-person and/or online)
- Recruitment, supervision, and on-going training of religious school staff and Hebrew tutors
- Enhance and implement curricula for all ages
- Annually develop the education department budget, managing income and expenses while keeping within budget

- Provide education and engagement opportunities that cater to both in person and virtual platforms e.g. religious school, multi-generational, family enrichment
- Develop marketing and communications for all youth and family programs including website content and implementing digital content and interacting via social media
- Create and manage youth and family calendars
- Recruit students and families through community-building efforts, individual outreach, social media, and full integration with synagogue offerings
- Develop and implement partnerships that advance goals, with local resources and national Jewish providers
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as requested
- Carry out congregational policies related to youth and family programs
- Perform other tasks and duties that may be required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in and directing a Jewish supplementary school
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff
- Knowledge and understanding of synagogue life, Jewish practice and holidays, and familiarity and comfort with sacred Jewish texts
- Proficiency in using educational technologies web-based resources, virtual meeting rooms, etc. while simultaneously managing a classroom
- Strong communication skills, written and oral, for interacting with students, families, faculty, and the community at large
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to take initiative and prioritize, creativity, flexibility, and ability to manage time and resources
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to think strategically and creatively
- Experience managing a budget
- Proficiency in Hebrew
- Willingness to work some evenings and most weekends
- Willingness to work on the High Holidays and other major Jewish holidays

Position Type: 30 hours/week

Salary: ($45,000 base; higher with eligible experience)

We are also looking for someone to fill two additional part-time roles. It is possible for the Director also to take on one of these additional roles.

Lifelong Learning Director (CBS only) (6-8 hours/week; additional $8,000 annually). In this role, the professional would work with lay leadership and staff to support synagogue-wide education for adults as well as the youth listed above. Additional support for programming such as Open House, Purim Gala, holiday celebrations and the like may also be required. This role includes:
- Meeting and communicating with lay leaders and staff to create, coordinate, and oversee specified CBS programming and adult education
- Develop and oversee student and family Shabbat, Jewish holiday, and community service program opportunities
- Provide logistical support on specified CBS programming and interface between lay leaders and staff
- Create marketing and communications pieces and social media posts for specified CBS programming
- Update CBS website to reflect specified CBS programming
- Staff specified CBS programming as needed

Youth Group Director and Advisor (4-5 hours/week; additional $12,500 annually). This a single role that includes: (TBI and CBS)
- Engagement and outreach to Jewish youth through innovative and engaging youth group programming for students in third through twelfth grade
- Working with youth on leadership, peer outreach, team building, program and meeting planning skill and preparation for Regional, Sub-Regional, and National Conventions
- Participating with youth in family services and junior congregation as needed
- Working with USY and NFTY to ensure programming is consistent with the mission and goals of each synagogue’s youth movement
- Collaborating with other local youth programs as appropriate
