Beth Sholom Congregation is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and experienced leader to serve as our Executive Director. We are a warm and vibrant Conservative congregation with 425 families located in a beautiful suburb of Philadelphia, PA. Our synagogue was designed by internationally renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright and is a National Historic Landmark.
Reporting to the President of the Congregation, the director serves as the reprresentative of the Board of Beth Sholom and oversees all non-clergy staff and works collabortaively with our clergy team to serve the needs of our Congregation. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership as well as oversee the day-to-day operations of the congregation.
Beth Sholom is deeply committed to the practices of Conservative Judaism and offers a daily morning and evening minyan, innovative Friday night musical Shabbat services and engaging Saturday morning Shabbat services. We have a growing preschool (our Brodie Family Early Learning Center) which meets the Keystone 4 Star standards of the PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning. We also offer a wonderful religious school and a Center for Spiritual Well-being. Our membership benefits from a robust calendar of religious, educational and social programming as well as many other events sponsored by our Men's Club, Sisterhood, Israel Engagement Committee and Social Action Committee.
We are seeking a seasoned professional to help fill our sacred mission; a collaborative leader who can partner with clergy, staff, and members; an excellent communicator; an individual who can inspire staff; a compassionate listner who can support members through life-cycle events; a person who can inspire members to become more connected through volunteerism and participation in synagogue life; an analytical and systems thinker with excellent project management skills and a track record of executing on goals; an individual who can effectively oversee a large, complex physical plant.
The director will oversee day-to-day operations including facilities, financial, engagement and program staff, and the Director of Early Learning. Supervise staff, assign and coordinate their work and work schedules. The director will oversee accounting and financial functions of the congregation, including the creation of budgets, management of expenses, and generation of revenue to ensure the financial health of the congregation. Additionally, the director will serve as liasion to the Board, setting up Board meetings, assisting with agendas, providing reports and counsel to the president. The director will promote member engagement and solicit input and provide assistance to the Congregational Engagement Committee to recruit new members. Oversee dues billing, accommodations and collections. The director will maintain the congregational calander, helping to prioritize events and resolve conflicts.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree, ideally in business. MBA preferred. Minimum 5 to 10 years in a senior leadership position with experience in human resources, general management, Financial management and purchasing. In addition to strong communication skills, the applicant will have the ability to sustain relationships with diverse constituencies, have demonstrated experience in managing contracts and vendor relationships and in managing projects and events. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite is necessary, with particular knowledge of Excel and Zoom. Knowledge of Jewish practices and/or willingness to learn, and the ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays.
Compensation is negotiable.
