Part-Time Mashgiach

 

Part-time mashgiach position is responsible for ensuring kosher dietary laws are followed in the synagogue kitchen, programs and food services.

Job Summary:

  • Following kosher policies and approved hekhshers as directed by Senior Rabbi.
  • Checking in food (and any new utensils/vessels) from caterers, vendors, staff and volunteers to be used in synagogue kitchen.
  • Monitoring cooking, storing and labeling to ensure proper distinction between meat, dairy, and parve foods and implements.
  • Monitoring of proper usage of kitchen on Shabbat and Jewish (Yom Tov) holidays.
  • Re-kashering of items, when necessary and possible.
  • Koshering kitchen for Passover as needed.

Skills:

  • Candidate should have a kosher kitchen at home and have a working knowledge of the laws of kashrut and Shabbat.
  • Candidate will meet with Senior Rabbi and clergy for training.
