Supervises: All Full Time, Year-Round, and Seasonal Staff

 

Job Title: Camp Director

 

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Camp Director to lead the development and implementation of programming, camper and staff recruitment, and business matters related to our camp. As the Camp Director, you will work closely with the Board of Directors to shape, define, and deliver the Camp Laurelwood experience. This role requires strong leadership skills, business acumen, and a passion for creating a positive and enriching camp environment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee camper and staff recruitment, retention, and training to ensure a high-quality team and a positive camper experience.
  • Lead the Camp Laurelwood management team and collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement programs that enhance the camp experience.
  • Provide oversight of the day-to-day operation of the camp at all levels, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Manage the overall camp budget, marketing, and business plans to ensure financial sustainability and growth.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly reporting to the Board of Directors, including property, financial, enrollment, and general camp status updates.
  • Foster and grow relationships among all stakeholders of Camp Laurelwood, including donors and alumni, through collaboration with the board and community. Experience with community outreach and comfort in engaging with various stakeholders is desired.
  • Oversee fundraising and grant work, working closely with the board of directors and professional staff team, with previous background in development.
  • Oversee new business development, including the retreat center during off seasons and additional camp programs.
  • Ensure summer employees have contracts, verify hire dates, wages, and payroll schedules, and conduct background checks on all employees.
  • Collaborate with all Leadership Staff to ensure a consistent camper experience, staff protocol, and adherence to policies and procedures.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Recreation, Social Work, or Business.
  • Previous professional leadership experience in a non-profit organization
  • Proven track record in a camp environment, specifically around developing, fundraising, achieving financial results, recruitment/enrollment, and camp management.
  • Knowledge of Judaica and familiarity with working in a diverse Jewish community including AIJC, HGF, local Federations
  • Knowledge of ACA rules and regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using CRM databases.
