Congregation B’nai Israel in Manalapan NJ seeks a Youth Director

Congregation B’nai Israel (, The Orthodox Synagogue for All Jews, is a welcoming community for people of all backgrounds and levels of observance. Located in central New Jersey, B’nai is a tri-state area Kehila with a warm, out-of-town feel. The synagogue seeks its next steps of growth as we attract more people to our Shul.

We seek to engage an indivudal who will be an important presence in our Shul, especially on Shabbos and Yom Tov. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on a Jewish community. With minimal time investment, mostly on Shabbos and weekends, you will touch Jewish lives and help build Jewish community.

  • Free Rent valued at $2,750/month (synagogue owns a 1,300 sq. ft. three-bedroom home with spacious yard next to the Shul)
  • Compensation commensurate with skills and experience
  • Moving expenses provided
  • Generous vacation time including Pesach and ample weeks off

Major Areas of Responsibility: 

Ba’al Korei/Ba’al Tefilla:

  • Welcoming presence in Shul on Shabbos, Yom Tov and weekends
  • Play a key role offering a beautiful Davening experience for a diverse crowd
  • Available to Leyn many Shabbat & Yom Tov mornings
  • Available to lead Shacharit or Musaf on many Shabbat mornings
  • Provide occasional Dvar Torah for congregation
  • Help promote Mitzvah observance in Shul and beyond

Youth Director:

  • Be a welcoming presence in Shul on Shabbos and Yom Tov
  • Provide programs for families with children on Shabbos and Chag
  • Lead youth programs at our Chanukah Party, Purim Bash, Tisha B’Av etc.
  • Organize youth and family programs on the High Holidays
  • Provide oversight to volunteers and part time staff
  • Be in contact with community members, recruit participants
  • Work hours are flexible and will vary, 8 – 10 hours per week

Community Development & Outreach:

  • Demonstrate passion for our mission to build community
  • Positive example of a Torah observant family
  • Host Shabbos meals
  • Teach Torah in small groups, in classes or informally
  • Be a presence in Shul, connect socially with a diverse community
  • Be an ambassador for our community, in person and via social media
