Position Overview

AJU seeks a Digital Librarian at an exciting time as the University reevaluates its library offerings and redesigns a digital library from the ground up. As an integral part of the Office of Library Services team, the Digital Librarian will report to the Library Director and collaborate with the Special Collections Librarian. This person in this position will communicate with faculty, students (FTE approximately 120), staff, and community patrons to provide digital access and instruction, resolve problems, foster relationships, and improve digital services.

 

Duties include supporting the University’s teaching, learning, research and community activities by building out our digital collection and managing the lifecycles of the library’s electronic resources, including databases, online journals, ebooks, audiobooks and digital archives. Through external monitoring of trends in libraries and digital services, this position is vital to the development of the library’s future, while supporting the day-to-day functions of the Office of Library Services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintains EZproxy and discovers additional library systems and application integrations
  • As part of a team, analyzes, documents, troubleshoots and resolves digital access issues
  • Accesses and configures digital resources. Manages the digital library,              including researching, purchasing, maintaining and promoting resources
  • Works with academic and community programs to serve identified needs and to develop and implement library resources
  • Coordinates ebook purchases with library staff and Innovation Dept., and works with Maven Content Curator to order ebooks written by Maven speakers 
  • Evaluates digital inventory and acquires new resources based on requests, user activity and budget
  • Monitors collection budgets and expenditures; maintains relationships with vendors
  • Collects and curates e-resource usage statistics in support of equitable access to resources
  • Provides content for library webpages and social media 
  • Monitors privacy, security, and compliance standards relevant to information resources
  • Serves as primary contact regarding daily library operations in coordination with the Library Director
  • In partnership with the Special Collections Librarian, assists the Library Director in personnel, budget, administrative and reporting matters
  • Daily library tasks may include staffing circulation desk, providing customer service support, cataloging, processing Interlibrary Loans requests and checking in paper journals
  • Participates in planning projects and processes for the library, where needed

 

 

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree in Library & Information Science preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience with a digital library environment, including experience in building a digital library from scratch.
  • Some experience with project management and communication platforms, such as Teams, Slack, Google Chat, etc.
  • Proficient in use of technology including Word, Excel, web applications and      EZproxy systems.
  • Ability to read Hebrew. Knowledge of Judaica preferred but not required.
  • Strong customer service orientation, ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies and in a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision. Experience               working with library services, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Ability to oversee multiple diverse projects at one time.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
