Tiferet Bet Israel, located in the Philadelphia suburb of Blue Bell, PA, is an open-minded Jewish spiritual community. With an attitude of love and acceptance toward all, regardless of relationship or family arrangement, income, or Jewish background, TBI reaches across Montgomery County, PA and surrounding counties to spread love, meaning, and Torah. TBI seeks a creative and innovative educator for the position of Director of Education and Programming.

In this role, you will serve as a key leadership position and strategic member of TBI’s staff. You will implement a cohesive vision for learning and engagement, including innovative programming for children, teens, families, and adults. You will have responsibility for the Religious School which includes children of all ages; from Gan through Hebrew High. You will also work to ensure that a unified vision of learning permeates all stages of congregants' lives through TBI's programs and services so all may live connected, meaningful, and purposeful Jewish lives. This is a full-time position, reporting to our Executive Director and indirectly to the Rabbi, which includes Sunday mornings, Shabbat responsibilities, and some weekday evenings.

This position directly supervises the Religious School and High School faculty, specialists, youth group leaders, special education support, and other staff members as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

Congregational Learning

  • Envisions, develops and articulates the strategic direction, goals, and structure of TBI’s educational programs, responsible for both day-to-day operation and supervision as well as long range planning
  • Partners with the Rabbi on all aspects of Halakhah, curriculum, and tfillah
  • Works with staff and lay leadership/committees to develop adult education, youth and intergenerational programming, and oversees their implementation to ensure consistency with TBI’s vision
  • Ensures and implements quality educational programs
  • Remains current with research, trends, and innovations in synagogue education
  • Serves as Religious School Principal
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and updates curriculum and programs
  • Ensures Religious School curriculum is delivered with a child-centered philosophy that recognizes and celebrates the unique individuality of every student and variety of learning styles
  • Attracts, engages and retains highly qualified Religious School faculty, specialists and special needs support
  • Provides professional development opportunities through staff meetings, internal and external programs and coaching/mentoring
  • Develops and leads (or supervises a leader of) youth Shabbat programming
  • Develops and implements holiday educational programming
  • Works with Executive Director and Finance Director to create and manage school budget

Programming

  • Acts as a TBI ambassador, creating a welcoming environment; and maintaining a visible presence in all areas of congregational life
  • Engages congregants and prospective congregants of all ages by facilitating connections within and between education and programming opportunities
  • Plans and coordinates TBI’s programming calendar
  • Organizes kiddush/oneg and serves as point staff member for food related needs of congregation and religious school
  • Works with Executive Director and Finance Director to create and manage program budget

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • We seek a leader and educator who is devoted to formal and informal Jewish learning across the lifespan; is enthusiastic, accessible and skilled at helping connect a diverse community; and can communicate with and be responsive to adults and children alike. You should be comfortable with change and willing to experiment with different kinds of educational experiences. We are seeking a community builder and team player who fosters a collaborative environment among staff, committees and the congregation.
  • The Director will have demonstrated experience in a religious school or other educational setting, ability to effectively communicate with parents, colleagues, children, youth, and visitors in a respectful and professional manner; excellent verbal, and written communication skills; requisite Judaic and Hebrew knowledge; experience with project management and vision setting; and computer literacy and experience using social media for marketing and engagement. Must have a high degree of schedule flexibility with the ability to work nights and weekends and be onsite for Shabbat and Holidays as needed. A Bachelor's Degree in Education or equivalent is required; Master's Degree is preferred.
