Honeymoon Israel (HMI) provides immersive trips to Israel for locally based cohorts of couples that have at least one Jewish partner and are early in their committed relationship, creating communities of couples who are building families with meaningful connections to Jewish life and the Jewish people. To date, HMI has run more than 100 trips from 20 cities across the country – bringing more than 2,000 couples to Israel. About the Position
Honeymoon Israel is seeking a full-time professional for the role of Boston Director of Community Engagement. This individual will play a critical role for HMI as we grow our operations and impact. With a unique remote culture, our employees sit everywhere from Atlanta to San Francisco to Tel Aviv. This position is essential to our fast-moving, high-energy organization.
Directors of Community Engagement are locally-focused HMI staff that are based in cities where HMI operates across North America. In many cases, the Director of Community Engagement is the only HMI-employed staff member in a given community. Directors of Community Engagement are connectors, facilitators, conveners, and supporters in providing couples with a platform that helps them determine ways in which they want to incorporate Judaism into their lives. While the HMI experience for many couples begins with a group trip to Israel, the trip serves as a catalyst and much of the work to support participants in this journey happens when couples return home.
- You are committed to Jewish life, understanding that connection to Judaism can take many forms, and are excited about the impact that transformational experiences can have on one’s identity and future
- You have an understanding of and appreciation for HMI’s target audience of young couples representing diverse Jewish backgrounds and affiliations
- You have a passion for and/or background in community organizing, community building, and creating unique and meaningful experiences for diverse groups of people
- You are flexible, nimble and adaptable as it relates to your work
- You have knowledge of Jewish culture, heritage, and practice, and are adept at including folks from all different backgrounds and life experiences
- You are energetic and social
- You have strong communication skills, both verbally and written
- You are a skilled project manager with attention to detail who can manage and juggle multiple projects
- You are familiar and comfortable with your local Jewish and secular community landscape
- Serve, engage, and support couples through the entire HMI applicant, participant, and alumni experience from the moment they choose to apply to the following months/years after they return home from Israel
- In times when HMI is not running trips to Israel due to COVID-19, manage “HMI at Home” initiatives, including a broad range of virtual and in-person educational and social initiatives
- Identify, build, and maintain partnerships and relationships with local community resources, institutions, and funding organizations that will provide wrap-around support and programming to HMI couples throughout their HMI experience
- In partnership with leadership and education team, identify local rabbis/educators who will engage and support HMI couples in various ways, including serving as trip staff
- Serve as a local trip leader, in partnership with a local Jewish educator/rabbi and Israel-based tour educator, on the HMI trips departing from your community
- Market and recruit couples to apply for the HMI experience in your community
- Represent HMI at relevant conferences and meetings
- In partnership with the grants management team, provide support in fundraising and development efforts as it relates to your community and build relationships with key funders.
- Communicate effectively and continually with and to past HMI participants, specifically as it relates to ongoing support for their Jewish and family journeys, opportunities for involvement and community building
- Serve as support staff for other HMI communities as it relates to the applicant interview process in those cities
- Empower and support HMI couples in building and activating their own alumni community at home by providing and connecting them to exciting leadership opportunities within and outside of the HMI experience
- Oversee all aspects of recruitment, selection, and registration for your community’s trips
Skills and Experience
- 5-6 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience with community organizing, program planning, and leadership development
- Highly organized, detailed-oriented, and efficient with time management
- Passionate about pushing and redefining the boundaries of Jewish life
- Knowledge of Jewish ritual and culture
- Ability to and/or experience with working in a virtual, remote work environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Technologically savvy and a quick learner
- Experience with project management including project planning, managing budgets, and vendor/contract relationships
- Ability to think creatively, innovatively, and strategically
- Independent, self-starter
- Experience with group facilitation
- Experience leading Israel trips/programs strongly preferred
- Experience with immersive Jewish education strongly preferred
- Experience working with young adults/young families strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
- This position will report directly to the East Coast Regional Director
- Candidates must reside in Boston metropolitan area
- International travel to Israel required multiple times per year (2-3 times on average)
- Domestic travel required approximately 15% of the time
- Must be available to work some weeknight evenings and weekends, including Friday night (Shabbat)
