The Director of Philanthropic Engagement will serve as a key senior member of the Development team, charged with on-site supervision of the development activity in New York, management of national development activities through liaising with key partners in our NY headquarters including Marketing/Communications, Program, Operations and executive leadership, and overseeing ongoing development processes and collaboration across these departments. This professional will also provide strategic support for regional fundraising activity, serving as a lead liaison, strategic thought partner and coordinating development support with locally-based Institute staff in DC, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, Detroit and Chicago. This professional will also design a number of funder engagement programs and strategies as a means toward increasing the capacity of the Institute to inspire new donors and grow our current funder community. The Managing Director will also develop a portfolio of individual major donors/prospects in the NY, DC, and Boston metro areas. This professional should have a strong passion for the mission of the Hartman Institute and a strong track record with building donor cultivation programs and strategies. Based in NY, this professional will report to the Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
- Management & Supervision – Supervise fundraising staff advancing outreach activity, funder servicing, development processes and operations across North America. Serve as NY HQ-based senior liaison to all other key operational/program divisions.
- Support Regional Fundraising Activity - Provide strategic consultation, oversight, and support to regional managers with development programming, events and cultivation locally in regions across North America.
- Giving Society- Launch and oversee the new Hartman Giving Society for annual donors in the $10K-$50K range.
- Cultivation of Major Donor Portfolio - Develop, manage and grow a portfolio of donors in the $10,000-$50,000 range – focusing on the NY Metro area and supporting the fostering of a community network of funders in NY area targeted East Coast communities. Pursuit of major gifts for priority programs in Israel and North America from major funders/Foundations.
- Staffing Support of Key Committees and Campaigns – Work closely with Senior VP to staff the ongoing activity of the Development Committee and serve as lead staff for managing the Annual Board Campaign.
- Advance Development Programming and Donor Engagement Trips- Plan, coordinate, recruit for and support implementation of ongoing, annual and special events/programming taking place on a local and international level including coordinating development-focused trips of executive leadership and key program staff
- Special Projects – Coordinate and assist with special projects and other activities that promote efforts of Development as the need emerges.
- 10 - 15 years of experience and demonstrated success working with donors, lay leaders, supervisees, and lay committee members to advance fundraising programming and events;
- Superior relational skills with colleagues and lay leadership;
- Highly professional, customer-service oriented demeanor;
- Takes initiative and executes on new ideas;
- Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented;
- Passion for SHI NA’s mission;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Able to manage multiple complex tasks;
- Experience working directly with lay leaders and Board Committees in a major non-profit and/or Jewish organization;
- Familiarity with Jewish philanthropic landscape in North America;
- Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment;
- Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions and knowing when to communicate and when to take initiative;
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively;
- Flexible work style with the ability to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities;
- Ability to staff occasional evening and weekend programs;
- Frequent travel expected – domestic in USA and occasional to Israel and Canada;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – proven ability using Excel and PowerPoint;
- Hebrew language familiarity a plus;
- Good sense of humor;
- BA / BS or equivalent.
Salary range and benefits: $185,000 - $200,000, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package.
