Communications and Social Media Coordinator (PT)

Who We Are:

Congregation Habonim is a vibrant neighborhood synagogue in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side that offers a haven of warmth and spiritual growth in a big city. Founded by German refugees who sought the solace of religious community in a new country, Habonim is a Conservative, fully egalitarian, and multi-generational synagogue that values its unique history while fostering love of Jewish life and culture in the next generation. Habonim also operates a warm and growing Nursery School and Religious School. 

Overview of the Position:

The Communications and Social Media Manager (CSMM) is responsible for maintaining and improving Habonim’s website, preparing the synagogue’s weekly email and other ad hoc communications, and creating and executing a strategy to increase Habonim’s social media presence. We would like to enhance awareness in the community about our services, schools, and events for all ages, and are looking for a CSMM that has the experience and ideas to drive more effective communications.

The CSSM will report to the Office and Operations Manager and will work closely with Habonim’s Rabbi and Executive Committee. This is a flexible, part-time position (15-20 hours per week) that may be done remotely.

The ideal candidate is:

• Proficient with social media, including Facebook and Instagram, and experienced in bringing an organization’s social media presence to the next level.
• Experienced with website design; familiarity with the Shul Cloud web platform would be helpful but is not required.
• Skill with basic graphic design and video editing.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented and consistently able to meet deadlines.
• Familiar with Jewish rituals and synagogue life, or willing to learn about them.
• For candidates in the NYC area, coming into the synagogue building a few hours a week would be helpful, but is not required.
