Position Overview

American Friends of Beit Ruth (hereinafter “Beit Ruth”) seeks an experienced, bright, passionate, and ideas-driven Communications & Development Manager (hereinafter “Manager”) to join its Manhattan office. This full-time hybrid position offers the opportunity to gain international non-profit experience with a leading organization focused on empowering at-risk girls, advocacy, and gender equality.

Reporting to the Development Director (hereinafter “DoD”) and working closely with the Executive Director, US team and the Israel-based Program team, the Manager is responsible for a breadth of cross-functional communications activities and will play a vital role in showcasing Beit Ruth’s transformational work and in fulfilling its short-term development goals and its long-term vision. The Manager will lead communications strategies and execution - while contributing to the organization’s overall growth and revenue generation.

The successful candidate can develop and lead a plan of action. And will create and help drive results-driven communications, fundraising and social impact initiatives while expanding Beit Ruth’s reach and reputation.

Communications and Outreach

  • Manage and execute all aspects of external/internal communications to engage and activate donors, partners, and prospects, including individuals, foundations, Board and Committee members, and institutional partners.
  • Create the strategy and develop compelling and visually appealing digital and print communications including; appeals, e-newsletters, annual reports, donor and Board updates, social media content, website updates, and event materials to align with organizational goals.
  • Update organization’s digital space, including website (Squarespace), social media (Facebook and Instagram) and regularly adding new and relevant content.
  • Prepare messaging, talking points, and speeches for presentations and events.
  • Secure media and other visibility opportunities to amplify Beit Ruth’s visibility.
  • Create and manage a Communications Calendar to plan campaigns and outreach efforts.

Programs and Special Initiatives

  • Act as a key liaison between the U.S. and Israel teams to stay informed on Village activities, events, and programs, ensuring alignment in messaging and storytelling.
  • Work closely with the DoD to manage and enhance special programs, including growing the Fellowship, B’nai Mitzvah and Young Leadership Council Programs.
  • Engage Young Leadership and Bnai Mitzvah families through communication, cultivation and stewardship, creating the next generation of Beit Ruth’s philanthropists.
  • Work closely with the DoD to help identify and execute new opportunities for funding and partnering with existing and new individuals, foundations, and organizations to achieve funding successes.
  • Work extensively on all aspects of annual Gala.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 or more years’ experience in Communications, including Social Media, at a nonprofit.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic fundraising communications and development, with a proven ability to persuasively engage diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to craft compelling fundraising messages – with a strong focus on storytelling and relationship-building.
  • Excellent computer skills – Word, Excel and PowerPoint, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), and familiarity with donor management databases.
  • Relevant experience in Adobe Creative Suite, i.e., Canva, Constant Contact, Photoshop and other creative tools, including Squarespace.
  • Strong project-management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines effectively and professionally, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment while also being self-motivated and capable of independent work.
  • Social justice-oriented and passionate about communicating Beit Ruth’s mission and accomplishments.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Israel and the Jewish philanthropic community.
