Position Summary:

The Holocaust Education and Combating Antisemitism Coordinator is responsible for creating, implementing, and promoting Holocaust education programming. This role involves planning the Encountering Survivors program, and creating new ways to combat antisemitism in the region. The coordinator will work with the Jewish Federation staff and the volunteers to implement these initiatives.

 

This is an hourly position for roughly 10-15 hours weekly.  The Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.  The Coordinator will be paid $20/hour.

 

Encountering Survivors

  • Maintain contact with children of survivors (descendants)
  • Enlist children of survivors into our Encountering Survivors Program 
  • Coordinate descendants to speak in local schools 
  • Enlist new schools and teachers for the Encountering Survivors program 
  • Conduct  a teacher orientation for new teachers to the Encountering Survivors Program 
  • Organize a school assembly to launch the program in the schools
  • Work with teachers to design a culminating project and provide materials and resources for these projects. 
  • Develop and implement plan for Jewish Community High School over 3 sessions

 

Antisemitism/Encountering committee meetings

  • Attend and organize Antisemitism/Encountering committee meetings

 

Marketing and Communications

  • Write a review of the year for the Jewish Federation’s Impact Report
  • Connect with funders regarding usage of funds and midyear reports

 

Field Trips

  • Offer guidance for field trips -  on occasion, lead groups on these trips – plan and arrange transportation and meals.  
  • Communicate with teachers and school administrators. 

 

Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)

  • Help organize the annual Yom Hashoah program
  • Coordinate with participating schools 
  • Participate in Connecticut’s state wide gathering for Yom Hashoah
  • Connect with other Federation Holocaust and Genocide meetings

 

Database

  • Maintain an up-to-date contact list of administrators and teachers in the Eastern CT area 

 

Organize a Leadership Institute for Teens

  • Design curriculum to develop young leaders through training and practical experience in areas like communication, organization, and activism. 
  • Recruit and train students

 

Organize an Art Contest across the region

  • Create Marketing materials
  • Distribute materials across high schools
  • Review applications
  • Award gifts in award ceremony

 

Library

  •  Organize and maintain the Holocaust Resource library 
  • Work with local school contacts to showcase the library and to help teachers and students find appropriate resources 
  • Distribute Curriculum in a box to as many schools as possible

 

Fighting Antisemitism

  • Monitor activity in the region
  • Organize workshops for Jewish students and their parents
  • Explore additional programs to address issues in the community

Qualifications:

  • Direct programming experience and/or program coordination.
  • Highly engaging personality and capacity to build community.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Impeccable organization and follow-through with the ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Zoom.
