About the organization
The Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 education on Jews, Judaism, and Jewish history in the United States. We do this by working with publishers and content developers, and by providing professional development to classroom teachers.
Position overview
ICS seeks a detail-oriented, thoughtful, and collaborative professional to join our Editorial team. The Senior Editor advances ICS’s mission by overseeing key editorial projects and ensuring all ICS materials meet the organization’s high standards for historical accuracy, concision, and editorial polish. This position provides editorial and subject matter expertise, supports colleagues through feedback and mentorship, and plays a key role in maintaining the quality and consistency of ICS’s instructional and professional learning materials.
Primary responsibilities
- Lead and edit content reviews: Oversee assigned editorial projects; edit drafts and provide feedback to ensure quality, accuracy, and alignment with ICS’s standards; occasionally, write initial drafts.
- Edit instructional materials: Audit and revise ICS instructional materials to ensure materials are accurate, precise, and up-to-date; provide research and subject expertise for new content development.
- Monitor progress and track metrics: Monitor updates to reviewed content; track and update key data metrics.
- Support Professional Learning team: Write and edit responses to ICS Educator inquiries and update professional learning materials as needed.
- Coach and collaborate: Mentor junior editors, contribute to improving team systems and workflows (especially editorial processes and guidelines), and participate in cross-team projects.

While our ideal candidate has management experience, we also welcome applications from individuals with fewer years of experience who may not yet have served in a managerial role. In this case, we may consider the candidate for an Associate Editor position. Rather than overseeing editorial projects and providing feedback and mentorship, an Associate Editor would serve as a primary reviewer and receive feedback from senior staff. The annual salary range of an Associate Editor is $60,000-$70,000.
We are
- Passionate about the mission and the work that we do
- A collaborative team that is intellectually curious, warm, and upbeat
