EDUCATORS NEEDED FOR IN PERSON AFTER SCHOOL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

BHS, a dynamic, inclusive, Reform Jewish Community seeks Part-Time Educators for their 2025/2026  Religious School K-12 Education Program. BHS Religious School’s curriculum strives to bring Jewish tradition alive, advance analytical thinking, help students develop proficiency in Hebrew reading and decoding, and nurture student’s spiritual lives. We foster a warm and supportive learning community where students and teachers alike are encouraged to build relationships within our young, diverse education team and with the larger synagogue community. BHS prides itself on being a great place to work. All teachers receive the full privileges of membership at BHS and competitive compensation. Commuting to Brooklyn Heights Synagogue is easy via most major subway lines (2/3,4/5,R,A/C,F) in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn. 

When: September 2, 2025-June 3, 2026  

  • Sundays 4/5/6th grades 9:30am-12:00pm 
  • Mondays 4/5/6th grades 3:30-6:00pm
  • Tuesdays K/1/2/3/7th grades 3:30-6:00pm
  • Tuesdays 8/9th grades 6:00-7:30pm
  • Wednesdays 4/5/6th grades 3:30-6:00pm 

Qualifications:

  • A love of working with children and passion for Judaism
  • Educational experience, either in a formal or informal setting
  • Ability to collaborate with fellow teachers and RS Staff Members
  • Ability to discuss familiarity with Jewish traditions, holidays and Tefillah
  • Ability to read and write basic Hebrew
  • Creative, confident and enthusiastic

Job Expectations:

  • Create, submit and implement effective and creative lesson plans weekly
  • Attend a weekly 15 minute phone call check-in with the Director of the Religious School
  • Write a weekly class summary (1-2 paragraphs) to be communicated with parents
  • Foster a warm and supportive learning community in-person or in the zoom classrooms
  • Attend bi-monthly evening paid teacher professional development sessions for 1 hour via zoom or in person
