Our full-time Assistant Controller, under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and Controller, will help lead day-to-day finance operations, including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. This position is in Nassau County (East Hills), Long Island.
 
How You'll Help Us Be Successful:
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures
  • Ensure monthly account reconciliations are prepared timely and accurately
  • Lead month-end close process, including journal entries, and revenue recognition, and reporting
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Evaluate issues for corrective and preventive action
  • Assist management in the annual budgeting and planning process, including variance analysis
  • Oversee grant reporting and analysis
  • Ensure accuracy and effectiveness of donor tracking and communication systems
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and all banking transactions
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • A proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance
  • Impeccable attention to detail and commitment to establishing and adhering to rigorous internal controls
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of progressive finance experience
  • Experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs preferred
  • Solid experience managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting
  • Technology savvy; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, boards/committees, donors, or other outside partners
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers
