The Senior Director, Marketing is responsible for enhancing the UpStart brand and  implementing, executing, and expanding UpStart’s strategic marketing plans for all inbound and outbound marketing activities, identifying prospective program applicants, and achieving fundraising goals. The goal of these efforts is to increase awareness about UpStart’s program offerings, network partners, and impact. This position has supervisory responsibilities, reports to the Chief Marketing Officer, and will work very closely with UpStart’s leadership team to execute the organization’s strategic vision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Chief Marketing Officer to create an integrated marketing strategy and execution plan that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals while coordinating tactics and timelines for all activities and setting up a scalable marketing department structure.
  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable the marketing department team, as well as any third-partner vendors and partners.
  • Responsible for content marketing strategy and execution, working with functional marketing leads to identify, develop, and distribute content that showcases UpStart’s mission and impact while supporting key initiatives. This may include articles and blogs, website content, email campaigns, social media, presentations, collateral, and other marketing materials. 
  • Drive strong departmental alignment and collaboration between program and development with marketing, including initiatives and processes that support strong lead management. 
  • Champion marketing-related initiatives and drive marketing operations, including digital and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) reporting, using best practices. 
  • Oversee the management, maintenance, and engagement of audiences through social media accounts. 
  • Oversee the execution of all email campaigns, which includes full management of MailChimp, content development, list segmentation, call-to-action suggestions, identifying optimal send times, and strategies for ongoing drip campaigns.
  • Collaborate and implement content and design updates for the website, implement SEO (Search Engine Optimization) best practices, monitor analytics, report key insights, and maintain brand message.
  • Oversee the rollout and usage of brand messaging.
  • Oversee the building and management of content calendars and publishing schedules.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop relevant content for audiences.
  • Develop and nurture strategic marketing and promotional vendor relationships.
  • Manage operational Marketing budget.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven background with 7-10 years of Marketing Management/Marketing Communications experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with implementing marketing communications and digital marketing strategies and plans.
  • Proven success in leading or participating in brand and marketing strategic plan development and implementation.
  • Proactively reaches out to colleagues at all levels to establish collaborative working relationships.
  • Experience in managing, developing, and implementing multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Skilled at editing content for spelling, grammar, and clarity.
  • Experience in managing social media content across multiple platforms.
  • Experience working within CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and marketing technology solutions.
  • Ability to and passion for creating content, including copywriting, design, presentations, web, and digital assets. 
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative skills in calculating and interpreting marketing metrics. 
  • Strong organization and proven project management skills with the ability to think strategically and creatively while working tactically in a dynamic environment. 
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, WordPress, MailChimp, Salesforce, and Google Workspace. 
  • Experience supervising a team and managing agency/vendor relationships.
  • Adaptability and agility in the face of change, both organizational and technological.
  • Passion for UpStart’s mission and the work of UpStart’s network.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - 115,000, based on the candidate’s job-specific experience and skills, education, and readiness.
