Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Hillel at Davis and Sacramento as the Development Manager. You’ll power Hillel by supporting efforts to connect people, vital funds, and resources to our mission. 

The Development Manager is responsible for contributing to the management, implementation, and achievement of Hillel’s fundraising initiatives toward a $700,000 annual goal. Ideal candidates are early-career development professionals with 2+ years development experience or those new to the field of development who possess a strong desire to explore fundraising. This position is highly focused on such areas as prospect research, direct solicitation, mail and e-solicitation, as well as phone and text-based fundraising, largely from audiences composed of parents, young alumni, and community members.

What You’ll Do

  • Identify, steward, and directly solicit a portfolio of donors and prospects who generally contribute between $18 - $1,000 annually
  • Lead management for Hillel’s Young Alumni base of graduates within the last 20 years, including engagement through fundraising and non-fundraising activities
  • Lead mass communications, in partnership with the ED and staff team members, for Hillel’s Monthly E-Newsletters and twice annual Thank-a-thons
  • Conduct individual and foundation prospect research to devise strategies that will reach non donors, lapsed donors and decreased supporters
  • Establish and coordinate incentives for both adult and student members of Hillel’s giving programs
  • Supervise and mentor development intern
  • Support and work with the Benefit Committee chairs on annual benefit

On a day to day basis you will

  • Lead all appeal timelines and tasks in partnership with staff team members and vendors to ensure “On Track” status from start to finish
  • Lead appeal details related to design, print and e-blast messaging, target audience/mailing list segmentation, etc.
  • Manage student-leadership with regard to hiring and training of Thank-a-thon callers
  • Prepare resources including training manuals, prospect segments, caller scripts, caller incentives, and donor gifts
  • Review and ensure best practices related to representation of the organization, closed gifts and secured pledges, and constituent information accuracy
  • Track and analyze fundraising data to build strategies that both increase donor numbers and revenue
  • Manage follow-up with donors and prospects as necessary

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

What You’ll Receive

  • Salary range of $55,000 to $70,000
