Youth & Family Coordinator  

 

Congregation Shearith Israel is a large, dynamic, Conservative synagogue, with more than 1,000 families, located in the heart of the Preston Hollow area of Dallas, Texas. PURPOSE 

We are seeking a Youth & Family Coordinator who, under Rabbinic guidance, will work with the Director of Programs & Events in developing relationships with and outreach to families, planning programs, and handling administrative duties within the department. Qualified applicants will foster teamwork and build relationships, have experience managing multiple tasks and projects, possess strong organizational and communication skills, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office products, and have some familiarity with Jewish tradition. Strong candidates for this role will be energetic, outgoing, and flexible in their dedication to serving and supporting our growing and vibrant programs for young families and their children. 

 

The Youth & Family Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all initiatives focused on young families and their children. This is a critical role that will help develop a sense of belonging to the synagogue and to facilitate lifelong relationships within our community. This position requires both administrative skills and creativity coupled with a dedication to implement initiatives that are innovative, relevant, and inclusive, in alignment with Shearith’s mission, vision, and values.    

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES 

Youth & Family Engagement 

  • Design and coordinate with Directors/Rabbis in planning and executing Youth & Family programs, services, and events 
  • Work with the Directors/Rabbi on outreach to families, developing relationships and making families feel connected to Shearith 
  • Maintain all Youth & Family lists, including family members, addresses, and emails 
  • Liaise with committees, as needed, for programing and events 
  • Ensure that catering menus and maintenance setups for programs, services, and classes are communicated and executed correctly 
  • Prepare, buy, and create materials for programing and events 
  • Coordinate Shabbat and parent/child engagement events, including: 
  • Shababas 
  • High Holy Day Youth & Family Services 
  • Sukkot Dinners 
  • Havdalah and Movie Nights 
  • Bonim Shabbats 
  • Tiny Treasures 
  • Family Camping Trip 
  • Family Seder 
  • Messy Party 

Communication & Outreach 

  • Maintain strong relationships with families and welcome and integrate new families into the community 
  • Work with Director of Communications on communicating effectively through weekly e-newsletters, social media, and other platforms to keep families up to date and informed 

 

Babysitting: 

  • Oversee and coordinate childcare for Shabbat, Holidays, the High Holy Days, and other events, as needed  
  • Maintain the registration list of all the children, including allergies, emergency contact info, and services attending 
  • Set up the designated rooms and provide activities and snacks 

 

Miscellaneous:  

  • Assist others on the staff support team, as needed and when available 
  • Work closely with clergy, educators, and lay leaders to align programming with synagogue values and mission 
  • Manage budgets for youth and family programming 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with children, teens, and families in a Jewish setting 
  • Strong knowledge of Jewish customs, holidays, values, and community 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills 
  • Ability to foster teamwork and relationships with high emotional intelligence 
  • Detail oriented and experience managing multiple projects at once 
  • Event planning and logistics experience preferred 
  • Strong technical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and ShulCloud 
  • Works well both collaboratively and independently 
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends at synagogue services/events
