Congregation Emanu-El, the first Reform Jewish synagogue in New York City, is hiring a part-time Program Manager for Emanu-El Downtown and the Department of Lifelong Learning. 

In the Fall of 2022, the Temple launched Emanu-El Downtown, a satellite location for Young Families. Emanu-El Downtown is a vibrant, welcoming community geared towards babies, kids, and their grown-ups. Exploration, playing, and learning are at the center of everything we do and are infused into all aspects of Emanu-El Downtown, including the Religious School Lab, a new initiative that seeks to create a fun and meaningful educational environment for children in grades K-3. 

The Program Manager will work as an administrative and pedagogical leader and work collaboratively to build this project. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a flexible attitude. This is a highly creative position that incorporates administrative, managerial, and supervisory responsibilities with direct teaching and relationship building.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

School and Program Management

  • Serve as onsite program coordinator
  • Develop new curricular initiatives
  • Direct the daily schedule and logistics of the Religious School Lab at Emanu-El Downtown, including ensuring classroom set-up
  • Coordinate and lead special school activities both inside and outside of school hours including but not limited to school worship, shabbat dinners, holiday and family events, and field trips 
  • Manage school materials, including art supplies, media, textbooks, and software licenses
  • Manage payroll, supervise faculty attendance, and hire substitute teachers as needed
  • Manage school and event registration and billing for all areas of responsibility. Keep all records up to date in Salesforce and update student information
  • Assist with recruitment efforts
  • Manage photos, including downloading and editing

Faculty Engagement 

  • Assist in coordinating and supporting school faculty in the execution of their job responsibilities, including helping them with curriculum mapping and documentation
  • Provide teachers with accurate and up-to-date information about their students 
  • Write and edit weekly communications with families
  • Assist the Director of Lifelong Learning in hiring of faculty and substitute teachers
  • Model creative teaching techniques and guide teachers in using them

Family Engagement 

  • Welcome new families into the school community.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families and respond to their concerns.
  • Follow up on student absences
  • Track and respond to life-cycle events, learning, health, and other individual needs.

Direct Teaching

  • Act as a substitute teacher and provide classroom coverage as needed

Ideal candidate

We seek a candidate committed to professional growth who can share a love for learning and Judaism with all members of our community.

  • 3+ years of experience in the field of formal/informal education; training in education and/or Judaic Studies
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative, and organizational skills
  • Effectively sets priorities and manages multiple tasks
  • Familiar with Hebrew language and Reform Jewish liturgy and comfortable working in a Reform Jewish environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom and Outlook and has experience working with data management software, specifically Salesforce
  • Have an entrepreneurial mindset, disciplined, responsible and self-motivated
  • Is a team player, working collaboratively with clergy, Emanu-El Downtown staff, school faculty, and parents

 Schedule

The part-time schedule is flexible but is in-person without remote work options during the school year.

  • Tuesdays (10:00 am - 2:00 pm)
  • Wednesdays (10 am - 6:30 pm)
  • Occasional Friday afternoons/evenings (3:00 pm – 8:00 pm)
  • Additional evenings, weekends, and holiday work may be required.

 This position will run from May 1, 2023 – May 31, 2025, with a potential option to continue.
