Manhattan Workers Circle School is a progressive, secular Jewish school and community that invites families to build a contemporary Jewish identity rooted in an exploration of cultural heritage and a search for justice. Our program brings together Jewish cultural learning, joyous holidays, social justice activism, Yiddish language, and B’nei Mitsve preparation. We meet Sundays, September through June, from 10:30 AM to 1 PM at the Manny Cantor Center, 197 East Broadway on the Lower East Side.

The Workers Circle is a nonprofit organization that powers progressive Jewish identity through Jewish cultural engagement, Yiddish language learning, multigenerational education, and social justice activism. MWCS is part of a network of Workers Circle supplementary schools that includes Brooklyn, Westchester, Chicago, and Boston.

The Manhattan Workers Circle School Director plans and oversees the Sunday School program for 40-50 children, ages 3-13. The program culminates in a group B’nei Mitsve, which is the focus of the 7th/8th grade year. Working collaboratively with a school parent board, a team of about 6 teachers, and Workers Circle’s education manager, the Director provides leadership to the school community of teachers, students and parents, creating an engaging and dynamic learning environment that reflects the Workers Circle mission and values.

This is an on-site, in-person position on Sundays only, Sept-June. Weekday and summer hours are remote.

Applicants are welcome from the worlds of Yiddishkayt, education, political organizing, and/or the arts. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, be a skilled collaborator, and bring excitement about building a vibrant, innovative, multigenerational community.
