Description

Germantown Jewish Centre (GJC) is seeking an energetic, creative, knowledgeable, compassionate Jewish educator to be a part of our vibrant and innovative team of Religious School (RS) teachers for the 2024-25 | 5785 school year.

GJC is currently seeking one teacher to teach 2nd grade Judaics on Sunday mornings between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm.  During January and February, classes take place on Saturday mornings instead of Sundays.  The second grade curriculum focuses on building students’ relationships with the stories and characters in the Book of Bereishit while exploring the Jewish values embedded in this part of the Torah, such as “Shalom Bayit” and being a “mentch”. Teachers will also work with between two and four teen assistants who will help manage the classroom and lead some activities with small groups and individual students.

GJS teachers are excited Jewish knowledge-seekers, youth-cheerleaders and community builders.  They work to connect students to each other and to our rich and diverse Jewish heritage in a warm and curious educational environment.  Teachers will receive direct support from the Education Director  to build engaging, inclusive, and compassionate classrooms, in which students learn and grow into joyful Jews.  Experienced and first-time teachers are encouraged to apply.

Germantown Jewish Centre (GJC) is a Conservative congregation in the heart of Philadelphia’s West Mount Airy neighborhood that serves Northwest Philadelphia’s multifaceted Jewish community.   Our Religious School is geared towards students (K-10) from all of GJC’s minyanim, including Dorshei Derekh (a Reconstructionist affiliate) and Minyan Masorti (a traditional egalitarian minyan). We proudly embrace the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity of our staff, students and their families.  We welcome multiracial, interfaith, and LGBT families, and we are committed to the inclusion of students with special needs.  The diversity of our families enriches our community and our children’s learning.

Through the study of Jewish texts and engaging with the full range of Jewish traditions, arts and cultures, the GJC Religious School seeks to inspire our students with Jewish wisdom that will help them navigate the difficult and joyous aspects of life. GJC Religious School paves the way for young Jews to become Jewish adults who understand and embody the values that express the core values of GJC and underlie our work together.
