The Jewish Library of Baltimore seeks to connect people in the Baltimore community to Jewish resources that support them in their Jewish educational journey.  The Library and Resource Center maintains a diverse collection catering to children and adults, including educators and other professionals. The collection of this lending library includes books, multimedia, Judaica, posters, and curricular materials.  Programming will be created to support day and congregational school curricula by a community librarian. The Jewish Library of Baltimore will become a community hub for engagement and learning.  

Position Description

The Judaic Curriculum Specialist is a full-time position responsible for making sure that our library resources support and enhance the curriculum in the Jewish day schools and congregational schools. Applicants must be able to read Hebrew.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages the Library’s partnerships with the day and congregational schools. Knowledgeable on the curriculum used in day and congregational schools. Visits all schools no less than once a school year. Coordinates pick-up and return of curriculum and educational resources.
  • Supports J.E.S. initiatives. Facilitates a cohort of school librarians. Mentor new librarians. Help congregational and school volunteers and staff produce an organization system for the reading room. Coordinate’s school field trips to the library. Manages data collection. Ensures that collection reflects the curriculum of the day and congregational schools, and preschools in the community.
  • Create bibliographies on special topics as needed, including book lists for post-program and materials needed to support the program.
  • Volunteer Coordinator. Helps recruit and supervise volunteer staff. Manages relationships with volunteer coordinators and volunteers through, but not limited to: Baltimore Chesed League, JVC, local school service hours, University of Maryland Library school internships.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and master’s degree required in Library Sciences.
  • Minimum of three years previous work-related experience in library procedures.
  • Able to read Hebrew.
  • Requires occasional weekend and/or evenings.
  • Must be able to move/lift/carry twenty-five pounds as needed. Must be able to exert up to fifty 

Salary is approximately $55,000 annually. Salary will be based on qualifications and skills.
