Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director, the Associate Executive Director of Youth and Family Services is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of the Youth and Family team, including Early Childhood, on-site camps, Afterschool and Teens departments; including coordination of work within the organization and externally, ensuring quality programming,  progressive development of the growth of the departments, exceptional communication with the community and knowledge and skills of the team staff. This position is responsible for community-building programs and events that help strengthen the school, youth and family programs, SJJCC, and the broader Jewish community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The position is part of the organization’s leadership team, with responsibility for collaboratively leading and managing programmatic activities of the organization’s operations in the assigned work
  • The Associate Executive Director of Youth and Family focuses on strategic management and oversight of the Youth and Family team’s programmatic work, coordination of that work within the organization and externally, and ensuring progressive development of the knowledge and skills of the team staff
  • Ensuring high quality, relevant and progressive work is being delivered by our Youth and Family team
  • Manage, oversee and guide the work of the Youth & Family team
  • Manage, oversee and guide the work of the Parenting Center
  • Coordinate, plan and implement grandparents programming
  • Based on community needs, identify areas where programs can expand their presence
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with local schools
  • As required, lead strategic change initiatives maximizing services for youth and families that are designed to work in concert with local communities and reflect community member preferences to promote healthy early childhood development, thriving youth, and family functioning
  • Responsible for overseeing and implementing programs and services for early childhood programs, children in grades K-5, 6-8 and teens including after-school programs, school vacation programs, family programs, special events, enrichment classes, teen programs, trips and more.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental guidelines and regulations including, but not limited to County of Nassau and Office for Children’s Family Services
  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of the Youth and Family team staff, including budgeting, planning, staff recruitment and development, and staff performance
  • Coordinate inter-team and cross-division communication and cohesiveness
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team working collaboratively to oversee and manage the daily operations of the organization
  • Implement and manage a system of continuous strategic planning and project management for all areas of the team’s work, resulting in achievement of organizational programmatic goals through effective management of timelines and resources, internal project coordination, and tracking of major project milestones
  • Participate in and oversee staff participation in internal working groups to ensure cross-collaboration amongst programmatic and other agency teams
  • Implement team operations aligned with the organization’s vision, mission, values, and strategic plan
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with others, both internally and externally
  • Consistently work to apply a lens of equity, inclusion and anti-racism
  • To perform assigned work functions, this position and those it supervises may have access to protected health information (PHI)
  • It is expected that the employee will operate from a place of integrity and assume an ethical obligation to protect the privacy and security of all PHI accessed by any employee on the team and will follow all of SJJCC’s policies and procedures related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • This individual will serve as a coach to motivate and mentor team members

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory and administrative experience in an educational institution, nonprofit, private sector, governmental system, or behavioral healthcare provider
  • Master’s degree or higher in education, social work, psychology, nursing, or public health background
  • Knowledge of government regulations including but not limited to Office of Family & Child Services
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations; funding sources; local, state and federal government; use of data; and emerging trends in the field
  • Proven track record of demonstrating sound independent judgment to determine appropriate course of action in resolving problems and implementing project goals
  • Ability to work effectively with parents, community leaders, service providers and consumers
  • Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary, culturally diverse setting with staff, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to analyze and interpret public policies
  • Experience using data to inform program and system management
  • Ability to develop and lead collaborative teams
  • Experience recruiting, managing, and developing a strong team of staff and program/project professionals
  • Pro-active, hands-on experience in managing a variety of initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact in a virtual environment
  • Effective computer skills
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
