Status: Half-time to start, potential for transition to full-time
Shefa is seeking a visionary and highly organized Program Director to shape and steward the next phase of our program offerings (in-person, virtual). This role holds the strategy, execution, and evaluation of all Shefa programs, refining both our in-person and virtual approaches to community gathering and spiritual education. The Program Director will supervise staff, collaborate closely with our CEO, and help nurture and grow a vibrant, spiritually grounded Jewish psychedelic community.
Below is the job description for this position as full-time. Once hired, the Program Director would work with the CEO to scope the role for half-time work with key organizational and personnel performance indicators to transition to full-time.

Key Responsibilities
Program Strategy & Vision
- Develop and implement Shefa’s overarching programming vision, grounded in Jewish wisdom and psychedelic integration.
- Build upon five years of successful in-person and virtual offerings to grow a cohesive, mission-aligned programming arc.
- Identify and track clear objectives and success metrics for individual programs and the broader ecosystem.
- Collaborate with the CEO and consultants to co-create Shefa’s Theory of Change and Strategic Plan (anticipated in 2026).
- Integrate learnings from our Jewish Journeys population study with Emory University to guide program development and responsiveness.
Program Design & Execution
- Launch new programming through in-person events in the Bay Area and other regions across the U.S., as well as virtual offerings.
- Enhance existing programs in both content and execution, balancing quality and scale.
- Oversee all operational aspects of programming: budgeting, contracts, rentals, communications & marketing, supplies, and staffing.
- Work with key stakeholders and researchers to establish ethical standards and practices of care, safety, and interpersonal integrity across all Shefa offerings Create evaluation systems that capture and integrate feedback from participants, staff, and partners to improve program impact.
- Develop and implement member-led leadership pathways, including facilitation roles and opportunities for community service as an integration practice. .
- Help build a holistic and inclusive model of psychedelic community rooted in Jewish tradition and values.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise part-time Program Manager, and manage relationships with independent contractors, facilitators, and volunteers.
- Collaborate with Operations Coordinator for administrative program needs.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and caring team culture that supports staff wellbeing and professional growth.
Qualifications
- Proven experience designing and leading mission-aligned programs, ideally in Jewish, spiritual, wellness, or psychedelic spaces.
- Exceptional project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with task management and CRM tools (e.g., Monday.com).
- Strong leadership, facilitation, and team-building capabilities.
- 3+ years in supervisory roles
- Deep alignment with Shefa’s vision and values, with a commitment to ethical care and relational integrity.
- Excited to work in a start-up environment with a culture of experimentation, iteration, and growth for creative success.
- Based in the Bay Area; availability for occasional evenings and weekends for events as program management lead. Possible week-long engagements with plenty of advanced notice.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Training in wellness and/or psychedelic modalities a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
This part-time role is compensated at $50–$65/hour, depending on experience, and includes a monthly health benefits stipend.
In 2026, we intend to transition this role to full-time employment with a salary of $75,000–$80,000, including full health insurance, expanded paid time off, and additional support for ongoing learning and wellness.
