Director of Early Childhood Education Job Description

The Richard E. Rudolph, Jr. Preschool at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, PA, serves 120+ children (6 weeks of age to Pre-K). The school employs 30 teachers and support personnel. The Preschool is licensed by the PA Department of Human Services and participates in the Keystone Stars program through the PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning. The Director of Early Childhood Education plans, directs, monitors, and supervises all activities related to the school. The Director also partners with clergy, senior staff, KI Board of Directors and the Preschool Parent Committee to ensure the continuous improvement of the program

The Director of Early Childhood Education reports to the KI Executive Director.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education, elementary education or child development
  • Director’s credential from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in Early Childhood programs
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with proven success for building positive relationships with families, children and staff
  • Excellent organization, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Judaism
  • Knowledge of the regulatory landscape including Child Protective Services laws and Individualized Family Service Plans for children with developmental delays
  • Successful experience with developing and managing budgets
  • Evidence of ongoing professional learning
  • Knowledge of the Keystone Stars Quality Rating System and Performance Standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate staff
  • Direct and coordinate activities of teachers and support staff
  • Coordinate recruitment of new families
  • Develop, evaluate, review and revise curricula
  • Maintain enrollment
  • Oversee family programming and other programming as appropriate
  • Maintain positive Parent relations and communicate with the Parent Committee
  • Maintain positive working relationship with Senior staff
  • Coordinate with clergy for Tot programming and attendance at Friday evening Shabbats, the High Holy Days and Festivals
  • Coordinate curriculum with the Director of Education for the preschool programming in JQuest
  • Participate in professional development and professional organizations
  • Work with the Executive Director and his staff to administer the following responsibilities: enrollment, finances, personnel, meal planning and preparation, maintenance and safety
  • Prepare the annual budget and monthly reports
  • Coordinate with Administrative Support staff for parent communications (phone, email and website), and such other administrative matters as may be needed
  • Write and Assist in the distribution of articles, emails, blogs, Facebook posts and other marketing strategies, including giving tours to interested families, to expand and strengthen the Preschool
  • Coordinate compliance with PA State DHS regulations and STARS program goals
  • Purchase materials and supplies for the preschool
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts to support the preschool
  • Ensure cleaning and repairs to indoor and outdoor equipment
  • Maintain a welcoming, dynamic and safe environment
  • Support KI membership efforts in the Preschool and assist with families transitioning to the religious school
  • Participate in Senior Staff weekly meetings and planning sessions

The Preschool program operates year-round from 7 am to 6 pm Monday-Friday
