Educator & Researcher (Full-Time)

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Prepare for and teach Jewish Enrichment daily in our lab school.
  2. Collect data on implementation of Jewish Placemaking and what new tools are needed. 

How will you do that?

Jewish Educator

  • Participate in regular text study and goal setting with Makom’s incredible team of educators.
    • Prepare to teach with the support of an assistant teacher.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families.
    • Communicate regularly with parents by email, text, phone, and in person. 
  • Set goals and reflect regularly on your classroom learning environment.
  • Following text study, lesson plan for daily in afterschool Jewish Enrichment Monday through Friday.
    • Serve as primary facilitator of lesson plans in your classroom, with support from an assistant teacher.
    • Jewish Enrichment programming runs Monday through Friday from 3-6pm.
  • Pick children up from area schools Monday through Friday for Jewish Enrichment. 
  • Meet regularly with Director of Teaching and Learning for supervision.
  • Staff School’s Out Camp and Extended Enrichment Days. See calendar for full list: https://makomcommunity.org/about-makom/calendar/
    • We will create a schedule so staff have both desk and kid time on these days.

Researcher

  • Collaborate with Director of Teaching & Learning to develop research questions for the lab school and strategies for data collection in each classroom pursuing Makom Community’s Lab School success criteria.  
  • Have regular supervision with Director of Teaching & Learning. 
    • Executive Director or Director of Strategy will join a few times a month to frame and support research work. 
  • Monitoring RSVPs for Makom Making’s seminars (it is automated from a sign up link) and ensure learning needs are met and that participants receive pre and post template messages prior to the seminars.
  • Collect data in your classroom on implementation of Jewish Placemaking
  • Reflect on where additional tools and resources are needed to support Jewish Placemaking.
  • Develop and try out new tools, collect data on them, and make suggestions on how they could be improved.
  • Support Makom Making materials creation.

Both Roles

  • Set goals for your own learning and growth and check in with them regularly in supervision. 
  • Grow Makom Community’s culture of intentionality, empathy, and listening deeply to children and their adults.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families.
  • Use Asana, our task management system, for task management and supervision.
  • Required within 30 days of hire: Maintain all appropriate background checks: PA State Police, PA Child Abuse History, and FBI fingerprinting.
  • Regular schedule Monday through Friday from 10am-6pm.

  • Collaborate with assistant teacher in your classroom and larger team of educators and directors as you create your daily classroom experience.

Salary Range

$51,000-$55,000

    • 5 days when the office is closed in June 2024 + 10 days to be scheduled when you need them throughout the year
