Jewish Center of Teaneck (JCT) seeks a youth director (or youth director couple) to work with our rabbi and lay leaders to create outstanding educational programming for our youth (toddlers through teenagers). 

JCT is a warm and welcoming community built on love of Chesed, immersion in Torah, heartfelt Tefillah, unwavering commitment to Israel, and a commitment to make constructive contributions to broader society.

Successful candidates must have a passion for Torah, Tefillah, Chesed, and Israel along with a love of children and a desire to create outstanding and creative programs to maximize child development and connection to community. In addition, s/he will be a self-starter with excellent communications skills and follow-through. Experience in formal/informal education is a plus, but not a prerequisite for the position. 

This is a part-time position. Additional  hours will be required during the Holiday seasons. The Youth Director will be able to take off six Shabbatot during the year, but is responsible to identify a substitute for those weeks, who will be compensated for their time. Highly competitive salary offered.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and oversees youth groups on Shabbat and holidays, hires and trains group leaders to effectively implement programming in groups, and supervises group leaders
  • Develops creative youth programming throughout the year, which expands upon existing programming and seeks to draw new families to the synagogue community; core programming includes: an opening year event, Chanukah carnival, Purim carnival, and closing event, Parent-Child Learning on Saturday nights, and Chesed opportunities.
  • Develops relationships with synagogue youth and their families
  • Works closely with rabbi, lay leaders, and office administration with the big picture conceptualization of youth programming as well as manages budgetary and administrative details
  • Presence at Shabbat morning groups and youth programs throughout the year is necessary
  • Plays a key role in helping to foster a warm, welcoming environment for a diverse synagogue community
