Congregation Kol Ami is a progressive, Reform congregation with commitments to social justice, Israel, and diversity. Congregation Kol Ami is an innovative leader in the Jewish, LGBTQ+, and West Hollywood, California communities. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we are seeking an Interim Executive Director to support the community through Founding and Senior Rabbi Denise Eger’s upcoming retirement and the Board planning for the synagogue’s future. The Interim Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the congregation, managing its operations, facilities, financial business, and membership, and supporting the Board of Trustees. 

The Interim Executive Director reports to the Senior Rabbi. 


  • Direct and/or supervise Member Engagement and Programming Manager, Communications Manager, and A/V Technician as well as outsourced accounting, IT, security, and custodial service providers.
  • Generate work schedules for non-clergy staff.
  • Participate in daily staff check-in and weekly staff meetings.
  • Address HR matters.
  • Manage contract with on-site tenant, field rental inquiries, and manage one-time event rentals.
  • Oversee the execution of all non-ritual aspects of worship services, community programs, and lifecycle events, including High Holy Days. This includes developing digital and/or printed marketing materials, obtaining all required supplies and equipment, securing and scheduling necessary staff, engaging caterer or food vendor (if required), setting up and breaking down of designated event space, and regularly providing day-of-event coordination. 
  • Employ the use of G-Suite for communications, internal calendar, and data management; ShulCloud for website/member/donor database management and credit card processing; and QuickBooks for budget management and financial reporting.


  • Direct and supervise facility, equipment, inventory, and grounds maintenance, repairs, and replacement of equipment.
  • Monitor security and HVAC systems.
  • Give access monthly to pest control technician on closed day (Mondays). 


  • Develop and manage the congregation’s budget in collaboration with the Treasurer.
  • Oversee, manage, and/or conduct financial business, including processing semi-monthly payroll, processing credit card donations, making bank deposits, retrieving/reviewing/approving vendors’ invoices and credit card statements, generating monthly financial reports and cash flow analysis, securing bids and negotiating contracts, overseeing purchases, maintaining congregational insurance policies, generating donors’ calendar year-end tax statements, employees’ W2s, individuals’ 1099s.
  • Serve as point-of-contact with the congregation’s financial institutions. 
  • Ensure proper upkeep and management of financial systems.


  • Oversee maintenance of accurate membership and donor records.
  • Ensure written donor acknowledgment and third-party notification.
  • Respond to inquiries from current and prospective members. 
  • Direct and manage the annual membership renewal process. 
  • Communicate with members about lifecycle events. 

Board of Trustees:

  • Provide administrative support to the President, including coordination and notification of meetings, developing meeting agendas, and advance preparation and distribution of all meeting materials.
  • Provide administrative support to the Treasurer.
  • Provide administrative support to the Membership Chair.
  • Direct and/or provide administrative support to Chairs of Board Task Forces/Committees.
  • Write monthly report of activities.
  • Participate in Board and other meetings as assigned.
