The Holocaust Memorial is seeking a Grants Accountant to join our team. The Grants Accountant is a key member of the finance team, responsible for the financial management, compliance, and reporting of all grants received by the organization. This role ensures that grant funds are spent in accordance with funder requirements and nonprofit accounting standards, and supports both program and development teams in tracking and managing restricted funds.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain detailed financial records for all grants, including federal, state, local, and private funders.
  • Ensure compliance with all grant terms, including allowable costs, reporting deadlines, and matching fund requirements.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and provide monthly budget-to-actual reports to program managers and leadership.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to funders.
  • Assist in the development and submission of grant budgets during the proposal process.
  • Participate in writing grant proposals, including narrative and financial components, in coordination with program and development staff.
  • Understand and analyze budget lines to ensure alignment with program goals and funder requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of finance and accounting principles to maintain accurate records and financial integrity across all grants.
  • Reconcile grant activity to the general ledger and ensure all restricted funds are properly tracked.
  • Serve as the liaison to external auditors and funders for grant-related financial information.
  • Work closely with program staff to provide financial guidance and support budget modifications.
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting related to grant receivables and reimbursements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nonprofit accounting or grants management.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting and restricted funds management.
  • Experience working with federal, state, and/or foundation grants.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial staff.

 

Compensation & Benefits

 

The Salary range: $65,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a sedentary role; Physical requirement of being able to lift 15 pounds at times. The position primarily involves working at a desk, sitting for extended periods while using a computer, phone, or other digital devices.
