Description

Congregation Bet Haverim Community School, the only LGBTQ-founded & Reconstructionist Sunday School in Atlanta, is searching for energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated teachers for our in-person Sunday School program. Our teachers possess some level of both Judaic and Hebrew knowledge, combined with the desire to impart a love of Jewish learning to our students.  

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a Jewish educational setting 
  • Ability to use technology and software including (but not limited to) a laptop, projector, Google Docs, YouTube, email, etc
  • The ability to engage multiple types of learners with enthusiasm and empathy
  • Ability to relate to and welcome students from all different Jewish/cultural/racial backgrounds
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the time of hire, per the recommendations set forth by the CDC

 

ROLE

Our teachers:

  • Attend online training sessions in our new curriculum, ShalomLearning, and a minimum of 2 professional development (online) seminars during the year (training time compensated).  
  • Attend our mandatory Teacher Orientation Days — in-person training on August 6, 2023 & Zoom training on August 13th, 2023. 
  • Teach 25 Sundays, August 20, 2021 through May 19, 2022, on location in Decatur (different location from the Lavista synagogue building). 
  • Attend periodic teacher staff meetings, as necessary. 
  • Adjust or add to lesson content as needed.
  • Write a brief weekly newsletter for parents.
  • Participate in weekly check-ins (either over the phone, Zoom, or email) with the Education Director.
  • Receive support as needed from the Education Director to ensure you are providing the best quality experience possible for our students.  

 

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • Our teachers will be onsite from 9am-12:30pm (teaching from 10am-12:30pm)
  • Teachers are paid for 4 hrs per Sunday at $35-$40/hr 
    • This includes an extra 30 min outside of teaching to cover time to look over lesson plans, write weekly newsletter, etc.
  • Pay range is based on experience level
