POSITION TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND FINANCIAL PLANNING & ANALYSIS MANAGER  

Location:         Remote/Online (Default)/In person meetings, as needed

Salary Range:        $125-150K plus competitive benefits package

THE ROLE 

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Finance Team  seeks an  Assistant Director  of Finance and Financial Planning and Analysis Manager (ADF/FPA) to help the URJ run the business for sustained growth and deepening of program impact. As a key member of the finance team, the ADF/FPA directly supports the Director of North American Finance in all aspects of the department operations by providing support and direction to the finance team, which ensures timely and accurate reporting of financial information to management and lay leaders, which influences business decision making. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

The Assistant Director of Finance and Financial Planning & Analysis Manager  reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for the following: 

  • Help to lead the annual budget processes for URJ in North America and Israel.  

  • Develop quarterly projections with analytical comps using key performance indicators, etc. 

  • Work with divisional/program partners to develop forecasts to predict/project business performance (revenue and expenses) and highlight key issues. 

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (and ad-hoc requests), internal and external. 

  • Maintain/Evaluate shared and central services cost centers and allocation methodology. 

  • Assist with evaluation of current processes to drive efficiencies and value-added applications, make recommendations for operational changes. 

  • Manage direct reports to ensure work completed timely and accurately. 

 

WHO YOU ARE & KEYS TO SUCCESS (THE MUST-HAVES): 

  • Finance & Accounting. Advanced knowledge of accounting, GAAP, finance, web-based financial systems (Intacct and Adaptive a huge plus); working knowledge of Canadian ASNPO and Israeli GAAP a big plus; knowledge of Salesforce, also a plus. Strong technical aptitude and excellent comprehension and literacy for reports, computers, ledgers, etc. 

  • Analytical & Strategic. Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. Ability to analyze large data populations, activities, and information, and interpret same to arrive at fiscally responsible conclusions. Ability to work with large amounts of data without losing sight of the big picture. Ability to synthetize and report out financial data in a manner that others, including program and organizational leaders, can interact with to inform decision making. Strong decision maker – ability to make decisions guided by policies and procedures. 

  • Management & Supervision. Strong management and supervisory skills. Self-starter with ability to supervise team of highly productive accountants, managers; ability to identify “coaching” moments; ability to lead and motivate and knows when/how to ask for help.  

  • Communication. Strong oral and written communicator. Ability to provide information in clear and concise manner including to those that are less comfortable with finance/technical language. 

  • REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience prioritizing and executing on Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum ten (8) years relevant experience in for profit or not-for-profit sector, with at least four (4) years in a management/supervisory role. 

  • CPA preferred – public accounting firm experience a huge plus. 

  • Minimum degree BS in accounting. 

  • Frequent virtual meetings 

  • Ability to work from anywhere
