Physical Education Teacher

Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (Schechter Bergen) is a warm, inclusive Jewish day school that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in general and Judaic studies. Schechter Bergen is seeking a full- time Physical Education Teacher for ages 3 through 8^th Grade.

Schechter Bergen cares deeply about our students at an individual level; promotes teacher collaboration on curriculum and instruction; and encourages active participation by teachers in the greater school community.  

The ideal candidate has:

• A Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Physical Education
• Experience working with children in a physical education setting in both elementary and middle school settings;
• Understanding of child/adolescent development and how social emotional factors impact learning;
• Ability to build relationships with students that foster a positive environment where students feel safe;
• Willingness to coach after-school sports such as soccer, basketball, or volleyball;
• Collaboration and communication skills that allow them to work well on a team as a co-teacher.

 Schechter Bergen Physical Education Teacher Responsibilities:

• Teach and develop skills in physical education and health, guided by agreed upon school curriculum standards and students’ developmental needs
• Develop student leadership, teamwork, social skills, positivity in a safe and inclusive environment 
• Establish and reinforce clear expectations and routines as per Responsive Classroom model
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required, including the completion of report cards 
• Inspect equipment and field areas to ensure they are in safe and working conditions
• Monitor student learning on a continual basis and intervene when necessary

 Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

 Salary range $45,000-$55000
