Who We Are

Congregations Beth El Fairfield and B’nai Torah Trumbull, in Fairfield County, are finalizing the formation of a covenant, consolidating into one brand-new synagogue. With a rich array of established synagogue history, we embark on a journey to provide our congregations a sacred space for an inspirational and joyous spiritual experience.  

Located in Fairfield, Connecticut with close proximity to NYC , New Haven and Hartford, CT, our new synagogue will  offer the best of all worlds for a new Cantor: an environment small enough for all congregants to benefit from spiritual warmth, a sense of belonging for all, yet large enough to sustain  a myriad of diverse activities.

Responsibilities

Musical Leadership

  • Oversee all congregational music programs
  • Foster joyful musical engagement through such modalities as congregational singing, choral music and instrumental music both by soloists and ensembles.  
  • Encourage participation of congregants with musical talents
  • Create special musical programs for the congregation and for the community

Worship Leadership

  • In collaboration with our Rabbis, the cantor will lead meaningful, spiritually-based Friday evening and Shabbat morning and holiday services and implement a program of innovative services to appeal to all ages.
  • Participate in and/or supervise Torah readings, encourage congregants to build their Torah reading and davening skills. 
  • Engage in life cycle events of congregants and participate in pastoral duties

Youth & Family Education

  • Teach about Jewish music and other areas of expertise in adult education
  • Inspirational teaching of children, teenagers, and adults, including Torah and Haftarah cantillation
  • Foster music in our religious school, Kulanu: The Jewish Learning Adventure and preschool, K’tanim. 
  • You are experienced in training B’nai Mitzvah students, including but not limited to teaching trope.

Clergy Team

  • Serve as an integral part of sustaining and growing our new synagogue family and the Congregation's Jewish identity.
  • Foster joyful and participatory prayer experiences through music and song. 
  • Work collaboratively, innovatively and creatively, while showing a true understanding of, and respect for, Conservative Judaism.

Who You Are

  • You have knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish liturgy, including Nusach for Shabbat and holidays and expertise in leading services and reading Torah; Hazzan certification
  • You have a commitment to personal spirituality, life-long learning, and religious practice and demonstrate strong musical training including skill in playing a musical instrument
  • You have a strong work ethic, including the ability to learn and take on new tasks. You have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a natural collaborator who thrives working with lay and professional staff and has a warm and friendly personality

The Details

This is a full-time, on-site position, located in Fairfield, CT. The compensation package range is $100,000-$125,000, including medical benefits and professional development. Salary is commensurate with experience.
